The qualifying degree comes first
Master of Physiotherapy is a postgraduate programme, so the main eligibility question is whether your undergraduate physiotherapy award meets the institution’s current rule. Most examples ask for BPT or a Bachelor of Physiotherapy; some use the label B.Sc. (PT) or permit an equivalent physiotherapy degree. A bachelor’s degree in exercise science, sports science, rehabilitation or another allied-health field should not be assumed to qualify just because it overlaps with physiotherapy. The admissions office decides which award is accepted and what proof of equivalence is needed.
The 2026-27 BLDE admission notice asks for a BPT degree with at least 50% aggregate marks from a recognised university or institution, subject to the eligibility criteria prescribed by NCAHP. The NIMT Greater Noida MPT page gives a different institutional threshold: BPT with at least 55% marks from a recognised university. Chhatrapati Shahu Ji Maharaj University lists BPT with a minimum 55%, relaxed to 50% for SC/ST. Jagan Nath University’s 2026-27 fee and programme table states BPT with 50% and merit selection. These examples show why a candidate should not carry one institution’s mark rule to another application.
Degree duration, internship and alternatives
Some institutions specify the length of the undergraduate physiotherapy degree and the internship as part of eligibility. Delhi University’s course regulations describe a regular undergraduate physiotherapy degree of at least 4½ years, including six months of internship, with a bridge-course route for certain 3½-year programmes. They also describe a separate pathway for some 3½-year graduates with at least ten years’ work experience. The exact marks and categories are set out in the University of Delhi regulations. That is a detailed university-specific rule, not a general conversion formula that every MPT provider must accept.
Keep separate the marks earned in the qualifying degree, the duration and format of that degree, and completion of the internship. A candidate can meet the percentage condition but still lack the required internship or accepted award. Conversely, a longer course or bridge year may be considered only if the target institution’s current rules expressly say so. If your transcript names the qualification differently, obtain written confirmation of equivalence before paying an application fee.
How to read marks and category clauses
Aggregate calculations can use different denominators: all years, final examinations, theory and practical components, or an equivalent CGPA. Universities may publish a base threshold and a separate relaxation for specific categories. For example, CSJMU lists 55% for BPT graduates and 50% for SC/ST candidates, while BLDE’s notice gives 50% aggregate subject to its stated regulatory condition. Those two values are not interchangeable, and neither should be treated as a national minimum.
Read the exact category names and documentation requirements. A relaxation may be limited to certain categories or to candidates meeting a particular domicile or reservation definition. The institution can ask for category certificates, internship completion proof, migration documents or an eligibility certificate. A general admissions summary may omit conditions that appear in the prospectus or the applicable university ordinance, so use the programme-specific notice as the final checklist.
Entrance tests, merit and experience
Eligibility and selection are related but different. Meeting the academic threshold makes an applicant eligible to be considered; it does not establish how a seat is allocated. The University of Delhi regulations describe selection through CUET or another mode approved by the University from time to time. Jagan Nath University lists “Q.E. Merit” for its 2026-27 MPT row. BLDE’s notice invites online applications and states the minimum BPT marks, while its notification directs candidates to the university for updated details. Applicants should not infer a common MPT examination from a course label.
Work experience is not a substitute that can be assumed. Delhi University’s regulations describe a specific long-experience route for some shorter undergraduate physiotherapy awards, with its own duration and marks terms. That clause does not mean any applicant with several years of healthcare employment can bypass the qualifying degree or internship. Ask the admissions office whether employment certificates must be full time, physiotherapy-specific and supported by particular registration or employer documents.
A document check before applying
Start with the exact certificate or provisional degree for your BPT/BSc Physiotherapy award, all semester or annual mark sheets, CGPA conversion rules and internship completion record. Check whether the institution asks for a migration certificate, equivalence letter, professional registration, identity documents, category certificate or proof of experience. If the undergraduate course was completed outside India, confirm recognition and transcript evaluation requirements early; an informal statement that the degree is “equivalent” may not meet the university’s document standard.
Compare the scanned documents with the application form fields. Names and dates should match, including spelling differences between a degree and identity record. Keep originals available for verification or counselling, even when the online form initially requires only uploads. If a result is pending, confirm in writing whether provisional applications are accepted and the deadline for submitting the final marksheet.
Questions to settle for your case
Before submitting an application, send the admissions office the full name of your undergraduate award, institution, course length, internship duration, final aggregate or CGPA and category if relevant. Ask whether the exact award qualifies, how marks are calculated, whether a bridge or work-experience pathway applies, and which selection route will be used for the intended intake. Request a link to the current prospectus or programme-specific notice so you can keep the answer with your application record.
An MPT eligibility page can be concise because the decisive details sit in a longer prospectus. Check both. A candidate who has BPT with the required marks may still need to meet internship, degree recognition, examination, registration or application-process requirements. A BSc (PT) graduate may be eligible at one provider and face a different equivalence review elsewhere. The reliable decision is the one made against the written rules for the exact university, programme and session, not a general “MPT eligibility” list.
