A useful CLAT 2027 study plan starts with the official syllabus and a timed diagnostic, then directs practice toward the skill that is limiting your performance. The Consortium describes UG as a comprehension and reasoning test rather than an exam requiring prior legal knowledge. It has 120 one-mark questions in two hours, with a 0.25-mark deduction for each wrong answer. CLAT 2027 UG syllabus
Diagnose before planning
Take a reliable past paper under timed conditions. Record time per section, accuracy, attempts and guesses. Label errors as passage comprehension, unsupported inference, rule application, current-affairs recall, data interpretation, arithmetic or time management. Use that pattern to choose study blocks. If you misread qualifiers, slow down for passage review; if accuracy is sound but you run short of time, add timed sets.
The Consortium gives approximate section ranges, not an exact guarantee for every paper. Prepare English, Current Affairs including General Knowledge, Legal Reasoning, Logical Reasoning and Quantitative Techniques. Avoid structuring the entire plan around predictions about which section will be easy.
Practise the tested skills
Read substantial nonfiction and identify the claim, reasons and qualifications. Use this as comprehension practice, not as a substitute syllabus. In Legal Reasoning, apply the principle stated in the question to the facts; do not substitute personal views or outside legal rules. In Logical Reasoning, identify premises and conclusions, then test what follows without adding an unstated assumption.
The current-affairs syllabus covers significant events in India and abroad, arts and culture, international affairs and historical events of continuing significance. The Consortium FAQ sets no specific time period. Organise notes by event, date, institution or people involved and consequence. Practise answering from passages, as the syllabus says related legal context may be supplied there.
For Quantitative Techniques, work with short sets of facts and numerical information. The syllabus points to Class 10 operations such as ratios, proportions, basic algebra, mensuration and statistical estimation. Mark units and denominators before calculating, then review whether mistakes came from reading, method or arithmetic.
Weekly routine and review
Use a repeatable cycle of focused weak-area practice, mixed timed sets and review. Rework incorrect questions before looking at solutions. Keep an error log that records the missed step and revisit it later. Full-length mocks help with attention and pacing; they are diagnostics, not rank predictions. Negative marking can make blind guessing costly, but there is no universal attempt rule. Use your own accuracy and ability to eliminate choices.
PG candidates should use the separate PG syllabus, which covers undergraduate law areas and comprehension of primary legal materials. UG preparation is not a replacement for PG subject review. A plan cannot guarantee a rank or seat; measure whether comprehension, accuracy and time control improve.
