CUET PG eligibility depends on the programme
There is no single CUET PG eligibility rule that automatically qualifies a candidate for every participating postgraduate programme. The examination provides a common route for institutions to assess applicants, but the university that offers a course decides the qualifying degree, required subject background, minimum marks, category relaxations and any additional conditions. Meeting NTA’s requirements to submit an examination form is not the same as meeting a university’s admission eligibility.
As of 27 October 2026, NTA has not published the CUET PG 2027 information bulletin. Do not assume that a rule or application date from CUET PG 2026 will carry forward unchanged. When the 2027 bulletin is released, read its candidate-level requirements together with the programme-specific admission brochure of every university on your shortlist. The current NTA information-bulletin page is the official place to check for the cycle’s governing instructions.
Check these conditions for each course
Qualifying degree. Confirm which undergraduate or equivalent degree the programme accepts. A course may require a bachelor’s degree in a named discipline, accept related disciplines, or admit graduates from a wider range of backgrounds. Similar programme titles at two universities can have different entry requirements.
Subject prerequisites. Some programmes expect specific undergraduate subjects, coursework or a relevant major. Choosing a CUET PG paper because its name resembles the intended degree is not enough. Verify the paper code listed by the university for that exact programme and intake.
Minimum marks and calculation. Universities may set a minimum aggregate or another academic threshold and may define how marks are calculated. Check whether the requirement is based on all semesters, the qualifying examination, a particular subject group or a conversion rule for CGPA. Do not apply a percentage threshold from one university to another.
Final-year applicants. Whether a student awaiting final results can apply, and by when proof of completion must be provided, is governed by the current bulletin and university rules. A candidate may be allowed to sit the test but still need to complete the degree and meet the marks condition before admission. Check the deadline for producing final documents rather than relying on a general statement that final-year students are eligible.
Age and category rules. Do not infer a universal age limit or reservation policy. Review the university’s current programme notice for any age condition, reservation category, certificate format, validity date and required issuing authority. A category benefit is useful only when the applicant satisfies the published definition and can provide accepted evidence.
A reliable eligibility check, step by step
- Write down the exact programme title, university and academic year. “M.A. Psychology” or “M.Sc. Data Science” alone may not identify the applicable rules.
- Open the university’s official admission brochure for the intended intake. Locate the eligibility section for that programme, not a generic university page or a previous-year brochure.
- Record the required degree, permitted disciplines, minimum marks, final-year conditions, category provisions and document deadlines.
- Find the CUET PG paper code or test paper name that the programme accepts. Confirm the mapping in the university’s notice and NTA’s current paper list.
- Check whether the university requires a separate application, interview, practical test, merit calculation or other step in addition to a CUET PG score.
- Recheck amendments before paying an application fee and before accepting an offer. Institutions can issue clarifications after an initial brochure.
This process matters because CUET PG is a multi-institution examination. NTA can publish examination rules and administer the test, while universities make programme-level decisions under their own admission policies. A valid CUET PG score does not waive a degree prerequisite or guarantee a seat.
CUET PG 2027: what is known now
The 2027 examination bulletin and university admission brochures for the 2027-28 session are not available on the official NTA page as of 27 October 2026. The 2026 cycle’s bulletin can help candidates understand the kind of information NTA provides, but it should not be treated as the 2027 rulebook. Check the official NTA CUET PG portal for new documents and consult each university directly for course-specific conditions.
Keep a copy of the page or brochure used for your decision, including its date and academic session. If two official sources appear to conflict, look for a later corrigendum or admission notice and contact the university admission office using contact details on its own site. Do not rely on a forum post to resolve a consequential eligibility question.
Frequently asked questions
Is a bachelor’s degree required for every CUET PG programme? A postgraduate programme generally specifies its qualifying degree, but the accepted discipline and other conditions vary. Check the official course notice.
Can final-year undergraduate students apply? The answer depends on the current NTA bulletin and the university’s conditions for completing the degree and submitting proof. Verify both before applying.
Does appearing in CUET PG guarantee admission? No. Candidates must meet the university’s eligibility rules and complete its admission process. A score alone does not establish eligibility.
Can I use one CUET PG paper for several universities? Only if each programme on your list accepts that paper and you satisfy each institution’s conditions. Confirm the mapping course by course.
Where will CUET PG 2027 rules be published? NTA will publish examination-level instructions on the official CUET PG portal. Universities publish their own programme eligibility and admission notices.
