Start with the right paper, not a generic timetable
CUET PG preparation begins by identifying the exact test paper that your intended postgraduate programmes accept. NTA offers many subject papers; the correct one is determined by the university’s programme requirements, not simply by the title of your bachelor’s degree. Make a shortlist of courses, note each institution’s paper code and eligibility rules, then open that paper’s syllabus on the official NTA syllabus page.
As of 27 October 2026, NTA has not released the CUET PG 2027 syllabus or examination pattern. Use the latest available syllabus as a starting reference and recheck the 2027 bulletin before finalising your plan. Do not treat prior-year question counts, duration, marking scheme, test language or topic distribution as confirmed for the next cycle.
Build a baseline before allocating time
Take a diagnostic test using legitimate questions for your paper or a structured sample based on the official syllabus. It need not predict your eventual score. Its job is to reveal what you can already solve, where recall is weak and which concepts need to be learned from the beginning. Record errors by topic and cause: missing knowledge, misread question, calculation slip, weak elimination or poor time management.
Turn every official syllabus heading into a checklist. Divide topics into three groups: secure, needs revision and not yet studied. Estimate the time each group needs and schedule recurring review rather than leaving all revision to the final weeks. For broad humanities or language papers, use active recall, short outlines and comparisons between related ideas. For science, mathematics or engineering papers, balance concept review with regular problem-solving. For common or aptitude papers, practise the specific skills and formats named in the current syllabus.
A sustainable weekly routine
Set a weekly target that includes new learning, retrieval practice, timed questions and review of mistakes. A practical session might begin with a short recall quiz, focus on one syllabus unit, then end with questions that test whether you can apply the idea. Keep a concise error log and revisit each mistake after a gap; rereading notes alone can create a false sense of mastery.
Schedule at least one mixed-topic practice block once you have covered enough of the syllabus. Mixed practice helps you recognise which method a question needs when the topic is not announced in advance. As the exam approaches, use timed mocks only after confirming the current duration and question structure. Until the 2027 bulletin is out, label any mock settings based on the previous cycle as provisional.
Use previous papers with care
Official past papers and answer-key material can help you understand the style of questions and practise working under test conditions. They do not guarantee that the same questions, emphasis or difficulty will recur. Do not infer topic weightage from a small number of papers or ignore syllabus sections that were less visible in one year. Use previous questions as practice evidence, then measure coverage against NTA’s syllabus.
When NTA releases provisional answer keys and recorded responses for a cycle, follow the official challenge procedure and deadline if you find a possible answer issue. An answer-key challenge is a formal process, not a substitute for preparation. The 2026 notices show that question papers and recorded responses can be made available to candidates for a limited period; use the next cycle’s notice for its own dates and process.
Final preparation and logistics
In the final stretch, revise the checklist and error log instead of collecting new books. Take full-length practice tests only when their structure matches the latest official pattern. Keep time for sleep and recovery; exhaustion can undermine recall and accuracy. Once NTA releases the city slip and admit card, verify the date, shift, centre, reporting time and identification requirements. Keep application details and travel plans organised.
Preparation should also include the admission process. A strong examination result does not automatically complete every university’s application. Track each institution’s post-result registration, document verification, merit list and fee deadlines separately.
Frequently asked questions
Can I start preparing before the 2027 syllabus is released? Yes. Begin with the latest official syllabus for the likely paper, but recheck the new cycle’s paper code and syllabus when published.
How many hours should I study daily? There is no official number that suits everyone. Base the schedule on your diagnostic gaps, available weeks and realistic concentration.
Are past CUET PG papers enough? They are useful practice, but they do not replace the official syllabus or guarantee future question patterns.
When should I start mock tests? Start topic-level practice early and use full mocks after checking the confirmed pattern and duration for your cycle.
Should I prepare for multiple papers? Only if target programmes require different papers and you can manage the extra workload. Confirm each paper’s relevance before adding it.
