MAT does not publish a common seat-allocation calendar in AIMA’s December 2026 candidate information. The notice tells candidates to select institutes where they have applied or are applying, and AIMA’s FAQ says admission criteria differ among institutes. The practical route after the test is therefore programme-specific: confirm score acceptance, complete the institution’s application, follow its shortlisting or interview instructions, and meet the school’s own document, fee and reporting deadlines. No AIMA-wide choice-filling or seat-allotment date is announced in the material checked on 27 October 2026.
Separate the MAT steps from admission steps
The MAT process and a business school’s selection process are connected by the score, but they are not the same application. First, a candidate registers for the relevant MAT mode through AIMA. After the exam, AIMA makes the score available through the applicant dashboard. Separately, the candidate applies to each target programme and follows that institution’s selection process. Choosing an institute for score sending does not submit its application, reserve a seat or start a common counselling registration.
AIMA’s current candidate notice asks candidates to select institutes where they have applied or are applying. It also warns that a participating institute may not accept the score for full-time MBA admission and asks candidates to reconfirm with the institute or university. This is why score sending should follow, not replace, verification of the programme, campus and admission cycle. Confirm directly whether the programme accepts the December 2026 MAT score and whether it requires a separate application before the score is released.
AIMA’s general FAQ says participating institutes can change from test to test and that their admission criteria differ. It directs candidates to the relevant institute or university for further information. The school’s official prospectus or admissions notice is therefore the source for its application form, shortlist rule, interviews, document check, fee payment, merit list and reporting instructions. Do not assume another school’s process applies.
A safe sequence from score to seat
- Confirm score acceptance. Check the exact programme, campus, admission year and MAT administration with the institution. AIMA specifically advises candidates to reconfirm acceptance.
- Complete the separate school application. Submit the institution’s own form and application fee by its published deadline. AIMA registration and score-recipient selection do not replace this step.
- Read the institute’s selection notice. Identify the score measure used, any qualifying threshold and the subsequent stages. Confirm whether the threshold is for shortlisting or final selection.
- Prepare the required records. Use that programme’s list for degree and marks documents, identity details, category or domicile evidence where applicable, and any other requested material. AIMA’s MAT checklist is not a complete college-admission checklist.
- Track every communication. Monitor the registered email and the institute’s applicant portal for shortlist, interview, document verification, offer and payment deadlines.
- Accept a seat only through the institution’s instructions. Confirm the offer, amount due, refund conditions, reporting date and consequences of missing a deadline from the current official notice.
This sequence is a practical dependency map, not an AIMA-prescribed central counselling procedure. The test authority’s role is to administer MAT and provide the score; the institute’s published notice controls its admissions stages. If a school refers to a counselling service, ask whether it is run by the institution or another authority and verify that source before paying.
Which date can block admission
There is no single MAT counselling deadline in the AIMA December candidate notice. The school application deadline is the first date that can block a candidate from being considered, and it may fall before the MAT result. AIMA expects the December 2026 score by the first week of January 2027, but this expected result window does not extend a school’s application closing date. Before choosing a test mode, check whether each target programme will accept a score arriving after its form deadline or allows a later score update.
After application, a missed interview, document-verification appointment, fee payment or reporting deadline may also affect a seat. The exact consequences and any waitlist or extension route depend on the programme. The AIMA sources reviewed do not publish a universal document list, counselling fee, deposit, reporting date or late-payment rule for all MAT-accepting colleges. Do not use a deadline from another institution as a substitute.
Create a per-programme calendar with separate rows for application, interview or selection activity, document verification, offer acceptance, payment and reporting. Record the source URL, exact programme and campus, and the date you checked it. If a date is described as tentative or subject to change, mark it that way and recheck the official portal. Contact the admission office before the deadline if the sequence is unclear.
Documents and fee checks
Use the school’s current checklist rather than relying on an all-colleges MAT checklist. AIMA’s exam registration asks for a valid email, photograph, signature and payment method, but those items belong to MAT registration. The institution may ask for academic records or other programme-specific documents. The current AIMA notice does not provide a single set of admission documents that every institute requires.
Before paying a seat acceptance amount, confirm the programme name, campus, academic year, total amount due, payment deadline, refund or withdrawal terms and the official payment channel. AIMA’s MAT registration fee is distinct from a school’s application fee, tuition, deposit or counselling charge. If a third party requests payment, verify that the institution names that channel in its official admission communication. Keep receipts and written confirmations.
If a candidate is on a shortlist or waitlist, read the notice carefully. Confirm whether the candidate must respond by a specific time, submit additional records or pay a stated amount to retain consideration. The term “counselling” may refer to a school’s interview, a central process or a guidance service; the name alone does not establish who controls the seat. Confirm the operator and governing notice before acting.
Score, cutoff and selection are different stages
AIMA’s score guide says MAT provides information about aptitude for postgraduate study and should be used in combination with other information where possible. The scorecard contains five section scores, a composite score and percentile figures. AIMA does not publish one universal admission cutoff in the current candidate information. A school may set its own qualifying score or use other selection evidence, but a candidate should confirm what a threshold means and whether it is a shortlisting condition or an offer decision.
A score above a published minimum does not itself establish eligibility for the degree, guarantee an interview or secure a seat. The institution’s current notice determines how the score interacts with academic requirements and later stages. Conversely, a candidate should not conclude that a score is unusable until confirming that the exact programme accepts the relevant MAT administration. Use the school’s written rule rather than generalized cutoff lists.
December 2026 and later intakes
AIMA currently schedules the December 2026 PBT for 20 December and CBT for 27 December and expects the score by the first week of January 2027. These are MAT dates, not admission or seat-allocation dates. No AIMA counselling schedule for the December test is included in the candidate information checked on 27 October 2026. AIMA has not announced 2027 counselling dates or a common 2027 admission process in the sources reviewed.
For an intake after December 2026, wait for the target institution’s current admission notice. Do not copy a previous year’s school deadlines, accepted test administrations or deposit terms into a later cycle. The reliable next action is to shortlist programmes, verify the relevant rule at each institution and maintain a separate calendar for each application.
Applicant checklist
- Verify the exact programme and campus accepts the MAT administration you plan to take.
- Submit that school’s own application by its published deadline.
- Track shortlist, interview, document and payment stages in the institution’s notice.
- Confirm document, deposit, refund and reporting rules before accepting a place.
- Save official notices, communications and payment receipts.
- Contact the school directly when an admission step or date is not clear.
AIMA provides the MAT score; each programme controls the route from that score to an admission decision and seat. Treating those as separate processes keeps exam deadlines, application deadlines and seat-confirmation actions from being confused.
