What a PTE Academic result contains
Pearson reports PTE Academic scores on a 10–90 scale. The report includes an overall score and information about communicative skills, helping a recipient assess English performance. The score is not a percentage, admission rank or universal pass mark. Each university, programme and intake decides its own accepted test, required overall score and any minimum in particular skills. Read the full requirement: meeting an overall threshold does not satisfy a separate component floor if one applies.
Pearson’s scoring guidance describes the meaning of the score scale and its relationship to English proficiency. Concordance charts can provide context when comparing tests, but they do not override the receiving institution’s policy. Do not assume that a score is “equivalent” for every course or that a general chart guarantees an offer. Ask the institution if it uses a particular table or applies additional skill requirements.
When the score will be available
Pearson says most Academic results are available within two business days. Some results can take up to five business days. The estimate is not a guaranteed delivery date, and it does not include the time a university needs to receive or process a shared result. If you have a close deadline, contact both Pearson and the institution about the relevant timing rather than assuming a report will arrive immediately.
Monitor the myPTE account for the score report and follow Pearson’s instructions if a result is delayed or requires a review. Do not book a retake before checking the current retake rule and the status of the earlier result. Pearson’s help guidance says the prior result must be available before retaking and sets a normal test-frequency limit, with an exception request route. Verify the current conditions in the help centre before acting.
Share an official report
Use Pearson’s myPTE score-sharing process or Score Report Code as required. The institution may need to locate or verify the report electronically; a screenshot or candidate-uploaded PDF may not meet its rule. Select the exact recipient and follow its stated process. Save the sharing confirmation and note the date, especially if several applications are in progress.
Before sending, check that the institution recognizes the exact test variant and delivery mode. PTE Academic UKVI shares Academic content, format and scoring but has a Secure English Language Test reference for specified UK visa routes. Core and Home are different tests and should not be treated as Academic results. A university acceptance statement does not establish visa eligibility, and a visa test requirement does not establish course admission.
Validity and score age are separate questions
Pearson states that a Score Report is valid in its system for two years from the test date. A receiving organization can set its own recency rule, which may be shorter or measured at a particular application or enrolment date. Therefore, check both the Pearson report window and the programme’s rule. The result could remain visible on Pearson’s platform while failing a recipient’s age condition, or a recipient may specify a different period.
Record the test date, score-report date and the application point at which the course requires the result to remain recent. If the score will be close to the recipient’s limit by enrolment, ask admissions directly rather than relying on a general two-year statement. Keep copies of the published policy or written clarification for your records.
Interpret a result against the right requirement
Compare the overall score and each reported skill with the exact course page. Confirm accepted variant, minimums, score age, intake and official submission route. If a requirement is unclear, ask whether it applies to all skills and when the score must be received. Pearson’s institution search can identify places to investigate, but its aggregate directory is not proof of a particular course’s current rule.
If you meet the language score, continue with academic eligibility and application steps; the score alone does not grant admission. If you miss a threshold, check whether the institution permits another test date, a different recognized test or an approved alternative. Do not assume a waiver, conditional offer or retake acceptance. Pearson’s scoring guidance and the institution’s current admissions page answer different parts of the decision and both may be needed.
