Use Pearson’s search as a starting point
Pearson maintains a destination search for institutions that accept PTE. It can help you identify universities and countries to investigate, but this source review did not verify a named course, campus, intake or minimum score. The search is not a complete course-level admissions directory, and Pearson advises candidates to contact institutions for full application requirements. We therefore do not publish a static list of named colleges as if each one accepts every PTE result.
Acceptance is a programme decision. A university can accept PTE for one degree while another department sets a different threshold or does not accept it. Rules can vary by campus, level, intake, delivery mode, score age and the applicant’s route. A general brand logo or institution-wide mention does not establish the exact requirement for your application.
How to confirm a college and course
For each application, open the official admissions page for the exact programme and intake. Find the English-language requirement and record:
- Whether the institution names PTE Academic, Academic UKVI or another test.
- The required overall score and any minimum in each communicative skill.
- Whether the test centre or delivery mode matters.
- How old the score may be and the date by which it must be received.
- How to submit or share an official score report.
If the page only says “PTE accepted,” ask the admissions office to confirm the exact variant and score. Include the programme name, campus, intake and your proposed test date in the question. Save the response because a verbal or general answer may not resolve a course-specific issue.
Distinguish PTE variants and routes
PTE Academic is commonly used for study applications. PTE Academic UKVI has the same content, format and scoring, but includes a Secure English Language Test Unique Reference Number for specified UK visa routes. Whether an applicant needs UKVI depends on the visa route and the receiving institution’s rules. University acceptance for admission does not by itself settle immigration requirements.
PTE Core serves different general-English purposes, including specified Canadian permanent-residence and citizenship routes. PTE Home A1/A2/B1 are two-skill Speaking and Listening tests used for particular UK family or settlement routes. Do not treat these as interchangeable with the four-skill Academic score. If a college page names one version, book that version only after confirming it matches the full application and any separate visa condition.
Interpret score thresholds correctly
PTE Academic reports scores on a 10–90 scale. There is no universal admission cutoff. The course may require a minimum overall score and a floor in one or more skills, and those conditions may differ by programme or intake. A high overall score does not compensate automatically for a skill below its stated minimum. A score-concordance chart is only a reference; the college’s current policy controls.
Also check result recency. Pearson says its report remains valid in its system for two years, while a college can impose a different rule or specify when the score must be recent. Confirm whether the requirement is measured at application, enrolment or another milestone. Make sure Pearson can still deliver the official report when the college needs it.
Make a decision-ready shortlist
Use Pearson’s search to identify candidates, then verify each one directly. A useful comparison record has the college and programme, campus, intake, accepted variant, total score, skill minimums, score-age rule, deadline and score-submission route. Mark a field “not confirmed” until an official course page or admissions response supports it. Do not infer acceptance from a third-party list, a general university statement or a student forum.
If a course’s rule is missing, contact admissions before booking. If several courses have different thresholds, plan against each course’s condition instead of assuming the strictest or easiest rule applies everywhere. If you are applying for a visa as well, check the government route separately for a SELT requirement. That keeps academic acceptance, language scoring and immigration compliance as distinct decisions.
The next practical action is to open the exact official course page, save its current requirement and ask the admissions office about any ambiguity. Pearson’s Who accepts PTE page helps discover institutions; only the college can confirm its current course and intake rule.
Build a verifiable comparison record
When comparing options, record evidence at the same level for each course. A simple worksheet can include institution, campus, programme, intake, official requirement URL, accepted test and mode, overall minimum, skill minimums, score-age rule, submission deadline, and the date you checked the page. Leave a field blank or mark it unconfirmed when the source is silent. Do not fill missing values from another department’s page or a third-party aggregator without confirming that it applies.
If two official pages disagree, use the page that directly governs the programme and intake, then ask admissions to resolve the conflict. Save the response with the date and the exact question. A language-requirement page may use a general policy while the department’s application instructions list a stricter component floor. Confirm which rule controls your application before registering for a test.
What “accepts PTE” does and does not establish
An acceptance statement indicates that an institution may consider a specified test result under its rules. It does not establish that every programme accepts every PTE version, that every applicant meets academic prerequisites, or that a candidate will receive an offer. It also does not promise that the course has a place available or that a visa will be granted. Score acceptance is one document condition among the course’s other entry requirements.
The exact test variant matters. A generic PTE mention may refer to Academic in an admissions context, but do not infer that when a course or visa route names another test. Ask whether Academic UKVI is necessary for the visa route and whether ordinary Academic suffices for course admission. Core and Home are not Academic substitutes. Check the score-report destination and whether Pearson must send it directly rather than accepting a candidate upload.
If no course-level answer is published
Use the official admissions contact listed on the course page. Ask a narrow question that includes the full programme name, campus, intake, nationality or route if relevant, and your proposed test variant. Request confirmation of overall and skill minimums, accepted mode, score age and official score delivery. A general marketing page or Pearson search result may help identify an office, but only the institution can confirm its course rule.
Recheck the requirement near application time because intakes and policies can change. Keep the URL, access date and any written response. This makes a future update straightforward and prevents a list assembled for one cycle from being presented as a guaranteed current roster. If an institution does not answer or its policy remains unclear, keep it marked “not confirmed” and consider other verified options while continuing to follow up.
