SRM Institute of Science and Technology (SRMIST)
Your SRMJEEE rank shows up on the portal. Within 48 hours, the counselling window opens. You fill choices. You pay. You lock in a campus and a branch that will shape the next four years. The process does not pause for you to ask around, compare YouTube videos, or wait for a better offer to materialise. If you miss a deadline, the seat goes to the next rank holder. This page gives you every grounded fact you need - timeline, fee structure, scholarship slabs, cutoff ranks, document checklist, and the refund math - so you can act fast without acting blind.
SRM IST conducts online counselling separately for each SRMJEEE phase. Phase-1 dates are firm. Phase-2 and Phase-3 windows are announced after results, but the month-level schedule below is reliable.

All counselling happens online. You never visit a campus until final reporting. The portal is admissions.srmist.edu.in.
1. Log in and download your rank card. Use the credentials from your SRMJEEE application. The rank card is mandatory; save a digital and printed copy.
2. Verify academic details. Enter Class 10 and Class 12 percentages accurately. Any mismatch during later document verification can cancel your allotment.
3. Fill programme and campus choices. The portal lets you rank branches and campuses in preference order. Choices, once locked for a round, cannot be changed. The preference you filled during the exam application was for statistical purposes only; this counselling dashboard is where the real decision happens.
4. Receive programme allocation. The admission committee assigns a seat based on your SRMJEEE All India Rank, the choices you locked, eligibility, and seat availability. Allotment results appear on the portal.
5. Pay the counselling fee to accept the seat. You must pay a total of ₹1,10,000 within the stipulated window. This includes a non-refundable registration charge of ₹10,000 and ₹1,00,000 towards the first-year tuition fee. Missing the deadline leads to automatic cancellation of the allotted seat.
6. Download the Provisional Allotment Letter (PAL). After payment, the PAL and fee receipt are available for download. This document confirms your campus and branch.
7. Pay the remaining tuition fee and complete online enrolment. Follow the portal instructions to clear the balance and upload self-attested documents. Physical reporting to the allotted campus happens later, per the academic calendar.
The total upfront payment to lock a seat is ₹1,10,000, broken into:
This amount is not an extra charge. It goes directly towards your tuition. If you fail to pay within the prescribed window - usually a few days after allotment - the seat is cancelled and the ₹10,000 registration component is forfeited. The ₹1,00,000 advance is refundable per AICTE rules, but deductions depend on the date of withdrawal. Always check the refund policy before paying if you are also waiting on other counselling outcomes.
Tuition fees vary significantly by campus and branch. The table below gives you the latest available annual tuition figures for the flagship Kattankulathur (KTR) campus, which commands the highest fees. Other Chennai campuses (Ramapuram, Vadapalani) and the out-of-state campuses (NCR Ghaziabad, Sonepat, Amaravati, Trichy) are lower.
| Branch / Specialisation | Annual Tuition (₹) | Approx. Total Intake |

| Room Type | Hostel Fee (₹) | Mess Fee (₹) | Total (₹) |
|---|---|---|---|
| AC - 3 sharing, attached | 1,60,000 | 68,000 | 2,28,000 |
| Non-AC - 3 sharing, attached | 80,000 | 68,000 | 1,48,000 |
| Non-AC - 4/5 sharing, common | 45,000-60,000 | 68,000 | 1,13,000-1,28,000 |
| AC - 2 sharing (girls) / premium | 1,50,000-1,97,000 | 68,000 | 2,18,000-2,65,000 |
Hostel fees for Ramapuram, Vadapalani, NCR campuses, and Sonepat are broadly in the range of ₹1,00,000 to ₹1,75,000 per year including mess. Bus transport for day scholars costs approximately ₹55,000-70,000 per year.
Annual tuition (₹4,75,000) + hostel+ mess (₹2,28,000) + one-time registration/activities (₹21,000) = approximately ₹7,24,000 in the first year. Over four years, the total outlay for a CSE student at KTR in an AC hostel ranges from ₹26 lakh to ₹30 lakh, depending on annual fee revisions and personal expenses. Core branches like Mechanical or Civil bring the four-year total down to about ₹14-16 lakh. Always build a budget that includes books, laptop, travel, and a 5-10% annual fee escalation.
SRM offers substantial tuition concessions based on your SRMJEEE rank. The scholarship you can claim depends on the campus you choose. Phase-1 rank slabs are the most generous; Phase-2 and Phase-3 have narrower brackets.

SRM AP operates a separate scholarship matrix with far deeper rank coverage. Below is the standard rank-based structure. Additionally, SRM AP runs an Equitable Representation Scholarship for students from 34 under-represented states and union territories. That scholarship sets fixed annual tuition amounts (₹25,000-₹4,00,000 depending on category and branch), effectively granting 90% to 0% concessions, and renews without any CGPA condition - the most forgiving scholarship in the SRM ecosystem.
| Scholarship | Percentage | Rank Range |
|---|---|---|
| Founder's | 100% | 1 - 27 |
| Merit | 100% tuition | 28 - 81 |
| Rank-Based | 90% | 82 - 5,000 |
| Rank-Based | 75% | 5,001 - 13,000 |
| Rank-Based | 50% | 13,001 - 23,000 |
| Rank-Based | 25% | 23,001 - 38,000 |
Use this data to build your choice-filling tiers. The cutoff figures below are trend-based; final closing ranks shift slightly each year with applicant volume and exam difficulty.
| Branch | Closing Rank Range |
|---|---|
| CSE (Core) | 8,000 - 10,500 |
| CSE - AI & ML | 10,500 - 12,000 |
| CSE - Data Science / Cyber Security | 12,000 - 13,500 |
| IT | 11,500 - 12,000 |
| ECE | 20,000 - 27,200 |
| EEE | 25,000 - 40,000 |
| Mechanical | 30,000 - 40,000 |
| Civil / Chemical | 58,000 - 70,000 |
| Aerospace | 48,000 - 52,500 |
Non-KTR campuses close CSE around 20,000 (Ramapuram), 28,000 (NCR), 32,000 (AP), and 45,000 (Sonepat). Core branches at these campuses fill up to 60,000-80,000+ in later rounds.
| Marks Scored | Expected Rank Range |
|---|---|
| 115+ | 1 - 250 |
| 100-114 | 250 - 900 |
| 85-99 | 900 - 3,800 |
| 75-84 | 3,800 - 6,500 |
| 60-74 | 6,500 - 10,000 |
| 50-59 | 10,000 - 16,000 |
| 40-49 | 16,000 - 24,000 |
These are indicative. SRM normalises scores across exam slots, so a raw score of 80 in a difficult shift may yield a better rank than the same score in an easier one.
Your rank alone does not decide your seat. The algorithm prioritises candidates by rank, but the branch and campus you receive depend entirely on the order of choices you lock.
Three-tier approach:
Avoid these mistakes:
Upgradation: If you accept a seat in Round 1 and a higher-preference seat becomes available in Round 2, you may be upgraded. Check the portal for sliding/upgradation rules for your phase.
The ₹10,000 counselling registration fee is non-refundable in every situation. The ₹1,00,000 tuition advance is refundable per AICTE guidelines, but the percentage repaid depends on when you submit the withdrawal request relative to the last date of admission.
| Time of Withdrawal Notice | Refund Percentage |
|---|---|
| 15 days or more before the last date of admission | 100% (less a processing charge of up to ₹1,000) |
| Less than 15 days before the last date | 90% |
| 15 days or less after the last date | 80% |
| 30 days or less, but more than 15 days, after the last date | 50% |
| More than 30 days after the last date | 0% |
Hostel and mess fees follow separate refund rules - generally full refund before programme commencement, and zero refund after commencement. To initiate a withdrawal, you must submit a written application, original fee receipts, PAL, and a cancelled cheque leaf to the admissions office. Refunds are processed within 30-45 working days via RTGS/NEFT.
Before paying, know the last date of admission for your phase and map it against other counselling timelines (JoSAA, CSAB, state counselling). If you have a realistic chance of an upgrade elsewhere, paying early and then withdrawing inside the 100% refund window is a calculated risk worth taking. Paying late and then withdrawing after the last date will cost you.
Keep originals and two sets of self-attested photocopies. You upload scans during online verification; physical verification happens at campus reporting.
