For AILET 2027 admission to NLU Delhi’s B.A. LL.B. (Hons.), check two separate questions: whether you meet the Class 12 qualification rules, and whether you can substantiate any category or applicant route claimed in the form. Indian applicants must sit AILET for selection. The current university FAQ says there is no minimum or maximum age limit. Applicants whose board results are pending may still apply and take the test, but they must satisfy the qualifying conditions by the cut-off date that NLU Delhi will announce with the result.
The rules below are for the 2027-28 admission cycle, based on NLU Delhi’s current B.A. LL.B. eligibility page, its AILET 2027 FAQ, and the programme’s seat matrix and reservation conditions. They concern the undergraduate programme only. The one-year LL.M. has separate qualifying requirements; do not use those rules for the five-year course.
Academic qualification and marks
The university accepts the Higher Secondary School Examination under the 10+2 system or an equivalent examination. The minimum aggregate marks stated for the 2027 B.A. LL.B. programme are:
The thresholds are eligibility rules, not competitive cut-offs for admission. Reaching the minimum allows a candidate to meet the academic condition; it does not establish that the AILET rank will secure a seat. The university selects Indian applicants on AILET merit subject to the published seat and reservation rules. There is no basis in the current official pages to treat the minimum Class 12 percentage as a substitute for the entrance score.
The current page says “aggregate” but does not prescribe a subject-wise minimum or identify a preferred Class 12 stream for the undergraduate route. It accepts an equivalent examination as well as the 10+2 school examination. If your board uses CGPA, a non-standard grading scale, a vocational qualification, or a foreign credential, do not improvise a conversion or assume equivalence from the subject name alone. Confirm how the university expects that result to be represented and documented before the qualifying deadline.
If your Class 12 result is pending
Candidates appearing for, or awaiting results of, the qualifying examination may submit an application and sit AILET 2027. The opportunity is conditional: the candidate must obtain the required eligibility by the cut-off date that will be notified along with the entrance-test result. NLU Delhi does not give that date in the current eligibility page, so it cannot yet be used to plan a late examination or result upload.
If the candidate is placed in a compartment in the admission year, the university says they will be treated as ineligible. This is a material rule for students whose board result may be provisional or who expect supplementary examinations. Sitting AILET does not waive the Class 12 condition, and a competitive score cannot cure a failure to meet it by the university’s cut-off. Keep the official marks statement and any board-issued result or completion documents available; follow the university’s admission notice for the exact acceptable proof and deadline once published.
A practical self-check is to ask: (1) Is the qualification a recognised 10+2 or equivalent? (2) Does the aggregate meet the applicable threshold for the category you will actually claim? (3) If the result is pending, can you establish the qualifying result by the later cut-off? (4) Are you at risk of a compartment that would make you ineligible? If any answer depends on a conversion, equivalence, overlapping category or future result date that the page does not resolve, contact the official admission helpdesk rather than choosing the most favourable interpretation.
Age, attempts and programme scope
The AILET 2027 FAQ explicitly says there is no minimum or maximum age limit for any programme. For this B.A. LL.B. route, the current pages do not state an attempt limit. Do not confuse the absence of an age restriction with an exemption from Class 12 eligibility or category documentation.
AILET 2027 is the entrance route for NLU Delhi’s B.A. LL.B. (Hons.) and one-year LL.M. programmes, but the qualifying requirements differ by degree. This page addresses only the undergraduate course. NLU Delhi’s FAQ also makes clear that CLAT or LSAT does not secure admission to NLU Delhi. A candidate considering several law schools may apply to their separate admission processes, but for NLU Delhi the Indian applicant route requires AILET.
Indian applicants and category claims
For the Indian National application route, choose the category you can substantiate and make sure the marks threshold matches it. The 2027 eligibility page lists 45% generally, 42% for OBC, and 40% for SC/ST/PwD. The pages do not explain how overlapping categories interact where, for example, an applicant is eligible under more than one listed category. Use the exact category options and instructions in the portal; do not assume that the lowest threshold automatically applies to every overlapping case without confirming the university’s rule.
The 2027 seat matrix lists 110 seats filled by AILET merit. The listed vertical distribution is 50 General, 24 OBC Non-Creamy Layer, 17 SC, 8 ST and 11 EWS. PwD reservation is horizontal across categories, and eligible women have a 30% horizontal reservation across the total seats, including reserved and Foreign National categories. Because horizontal reservations overlap the category matrix, they should not be added again to the total. A candidate’s eligibility for an entrance test and the requirements for using a reserved seat are related but distinct questions: meet the academic condition and also hold the category evidence the university requires.
For OBC Non-Creamy Layer, NLU Delhi accepts a valid certificate under the Central List or the Delhi State List and specifies that the certificate must be issued on or after 1 April 2026 for this cycle. An OBC certificate from a different state list is not identified as sufficient by the current matrix. Check the list and date printed on the certificate before selecting OBC NCL in the form.
For EWS, the university requires a valid Income and Asset Certificate from an authority listed on its seat-matrix page; it must be issued on or after 1 April 2026. The page identifies authorised district, magistrate, revenue and sub-divisional authorities. A family income statement or an application for a certificate is not the same as the specified certificate. If you intend to claim EWS, confirm early that the issued document matches the university’s requirements.
SC and ST candidates must have a valid certificate issued by a competent authority. The matrix describes how vacant SC and ST seats may convert between those categories and, if no eligible candidates are available, ultimately to General; candidates should not treat a possible conversion as an entitlement. The university also requires certificates in the candidate’s own name, not a parent’s or guardian’s. For PwD, it specifies a valid certificate under the Rights of Persons with Disabilities Act, 2016. Five per cent horizontal reservation is provided across categories. The current pages do not replace the need to establish eligibility for the underlying category where a horizontal reservation is claimed.
The seat matrix states that 30% of total seats are horizontally reserved for eligible women, including candidates selected in reserved and foreign-national categories. This is a reservation condition applied across the listed seat groups, not an additional pool to add to the 120-seat total. Read the complete matrix for certificate, conversion and category conditions; this summary does not establish an individual’s category eligibility.
Foreign National and OCI/PIO applicants
Foreign Nationals and OCI/PIO applicants have a different route from Indian applicants. The AILET 2027 FAQ says candidates in those categories are exempt from appearing in AILET when they apply under those categories. The undergraduate seat matrix lists five seats for Foreign Nationals and five for OCI/PIO. The eligibility page sets a 65% aggregate requirement for Foreign Nationals and says their merit is determined by qualifying-examination marks. It also says unfilled Foreign National/OCI/PIO seats are carried over to the General category and filled on merit.
OCI/PIO applicants may apply under that category and separately as Indian students, using two separate application forms. If they apply as Indian students, they must appear in AILET with other Indian applicants. The FAQ says there are no NRI seats. Because the pages distinguish citizenship, OCI/PIO status and applicant type, select the correct portal option rather than assuming that overseas residence or NRI status creates a separate seat category. The exact treatment of an individual’s documents should be confirmed using the portal’s current instructions.
Documents and timing
The FAQ says category certificates are generally not uploaded with the online form and must be produced in original at provisional admission and document verification. It identifies a BPL certificate as an online upload for applicants seeking the specified application-fee exemption. The separate 2027 application guidelines also list a passport for Foreign National applicants and a PwD certificate where PwD reservation is claimed. Follow the programme-specific upload checklist shown in the live form, since document requirements depend on the applicant route.
For B.A. LL.B. admission and counselling, the FAQ lists Class 12 and Class 10 marks statements, a latest character certificate, transfer certificate, and valid SC/ST/OBC/EWS/PwD certificate where applicable. Original category evidence is required at provisional admission; the seat-matrix page says no provisional admission will be granted for want of a required caste or category certificate. Preparing these records before results are released reduces the risk of losing time if you receive an invitation or offer.
Application eligibility is separate from the application-fee waiver. The current fee page says SC/ST women who are below the poverty line are exempt from the application fee, subject to those conditions. A fee exemption does not itself establish eligibility for a reserved seat, and reserved-seat eligibility does not automatically establish fee-waiver eligibility.
Applicant self-check
Before submitting, use this sequence:
- Select the programme and applicant route. This page is for Indian applicants to the B.A. LL.B. (Hons.) route. Foreign National/OCI/PIO applicants should use the separate portal option and review the five-seat categories.
- Check the qualifying award. Confirm that you have completed, or are appearing for, a 10+2 or equivalent examination.
- Apply the right aggregate threshold. Use the percentage specified for the category you are claiming. If categories overlap or your grading system differs, ask the admission office for an official interpretation.
- Check the result condition. If your result is pending, meet the university’s later cut-off; do not assume the AILET date is the same deadline. A compartment in the admission year makes the candidate ineligible under the current rule.
- Match category evidence. Check issuer, list, certificate date and candidate name against the current seat matrix. Keep original documents ready for provisional admission.
- Use the live application checklist. Complete required uploads and retain the submitted form and acknowledgement. The current AILET 2027 application deadline is 10 November 2026, subject to official updates.
If you cannot establish one of these conditions from the official documents, ask NLU Delhi’s admissions helpdesk before submitting or making a category claim. The university’s rules, not an older prospectus or a coaching summary, determine eligibility for this cycle.
Frequently asked questions
Can I apply before my Class 12 results are declared? Yes. Appearing candidates and candidates awaiting results may apply and sit the test, but must meet the qualifying standard by the cut-off date announced with the result.
What is the minimum Class 12 percentage for AILET 2027 B.A. LL.B.? The current page states 45% generally, 42% for OBC and 40% for SC/ST/PwD. Foreign Nationals must meet 65%.
Is there an age limit? The AILET 2027 FAQ says there is no minimum or maximum age limit.
Can an OCI/PIO candidate apply as an Indian student? The university says an OCI/PIO candidate may submit separate applications under OCI/PIO and Indian categories. The Indian-category application requires appearing for AILET.
Do I upload reservation certificates with the form? The FAQ says category certificates are generally checked at provisional admission; it identifies a BPL certificate for the specified fee waiver. The application guidelines separately list passport and PwD certificate uploads where applicable. Follow the current form checklist.
