CUET UG does not use one universal counselling process for every participating institution. NTA conducts the examination and releases scores; universities handle admission to their own programmes and publish their own counselling or admission schedules and merit lists. For CUET UG 2026, the NTA bulletin says those lists use CUET scores and the respective university's other criteria, and directs candidates to the applied university for admission procedures. After the result, your priority is to identify the correct institutional portal and complete its separate steps on time. CUET (UG) 2026 Information Bulletin
Identify the responsible counselling authority
Start with the official admissions page of each university and programme on your shortlist. Confirm that the course uses CUET for the relevant academic session, which score or papers it considers, and which portal handles its admission. A CUET scorecard does not itself register you for counselling. Some institutions require a separate post-result form, preference list, fee or document upload; others may use different arrangements. Follow the institution's current notice rather than assuming a process from another university applies.
The NTA bulletin distinguishes the common examination from university admission. It states that institutions declare counselling or admission schedules and merit lists after NTA result publication, based on CUET scores and their own criteria. NTA does not prepare the merit list. This division of responsibility means candidates need to monitor both NTA notices for examination matters and university notices for selection, seat allocation and reporting.
Prepare before registration opens
Make an institution-by-institution tracker with course, campus, eligibility, accepted CUET paper combination, admission portal, application fee, preference rules, required documents and published deadlines. Confirm your scorecard contains the relevant papers and that you meet the programme's Class 12 and category conditions. Keep original marksheets, identity documents and any required category, domicile or disability certificates ready in the format required by the university.
Read how the institution treats preferences. Some processes may ask for programme choices, campus choices or a ranked list; their order and editability can matter. Note whether preferences can be changed after submission, whether they must be locked, and whether later rounds use a separate choice window. Do not submit choices based only on an assumed cutoff or an unofficial prediction.
Registration, choice filling and allocation
Follow the exact steps and timing in the current university notice. Complete account creation or registration, enter application details, provide required scores, upload documents, pay the stated fee and save the confirmation. If a preference form is required, review each course code and campus before submission. Keep proof of payment and a copy of the final choices. A portal's “saved” state may differ from “submitted” or “locked”; check the status language in the instructions.
If the university runs multiple allocation rounds, each round can have its own dates and rules for accepting an offer, paying a seat fee, opting for an upgrade, withdrawing or joining. Read the specific round notice. A seat offered in one round may require an action by a fixed deadline to remain under consideration. Do not assume that an unaccepted offer will automatically carry into the next round, or that accepting a seat prevents participation in further rounds; the institution's published rules decide this.
Some institutions may publish vacancy or special rounds after regular allocation. Check their eligibility and whether fresh registration or preference entry is permitted. A special round is not necessarily open to every candidate who took CUET. Verify the notice's candidate group, fee and action window before relying on it.
Merit lists and cutoffs
Universities may combine CUET scores with programme-specific subject requirements or other criteria. Read the merit method and the definition of each list. A cutoff or closing score is specific to programme, campus, category, round and academic session; it is not a national CUET threshold. The NTA score and an institutional merit position are separate outputs. Use official university lists and compare only like-for-like figures.
If you receive no offer in an early list, continue monitoring later rounds and institution notices if you remain eligible. Do not treat an earlier round's closing score as the final outcome or as a promise of a future seat. Keep backup options that you would genuinely accept and complete their separate deadlines while waiting for another university.
Document verification and reporting
An offer may be provisional until the institution verifies original documents and eligibility. Read the reporting instructions for the exact list of certificates, photographs, identity proof, marksheets and any category-specific documents. Confirm whether verification is online, in person or both, and whether originals or self-attested copies are required. If your final Class 12 result was pending at application, follow the institution's deadline and process for submitting it.
Before paying an acceptance or admission amount, confirm the programme, campus, category, fee and refund or withdrawal rules in the official notice. Save the receipt and offer letter. If a document has a discrepancy, contact the admissions office before the reporting deadline and retain its response. Do not assume the NTA helpdesk can resolve a university document or seat-allocation decision.
Managing multiple university processes
Applicants considering more than one university should keep separate checklists. Deadlines can overlap, and a choice submitted on one institution's portal does not automatically count for another. Record each institution's registration, preference, payment, acceptance, upgrade and reporting steps. If you accept an offer while awaiting another, check the first institution's withdrawal and refund rules as well as any consequences for later allocation rounds.
Use the scorecard for the session and courses it supports. The 2026 bulletin states the CUET UG 2026 NTA score is valid for admission to academic year 2026-27 only. A candidate applying in another session should follow that session's score validity instructions rather than assuming an old score carries forward.
2027-28 counselling information
No official 2027-28 CUET UG counselling calendar was available in the sources reviewed as of 27 October 2026. Each university will publish its own future process and dates. Once those notices appear, verify programme eligibility, participating status, application steps, rounds, fees, document requirements and deadlines directly with the institution. Do not infer that one national schedule or a 2026 university process will repeat.
