NMAT by GMAC is a computer-based management entrance test owned by Graduate Management Global Connection (India) Private Limited, a GMAC subsidiary. It is used by participating business schools as one input to admission decisions; taking NMAT does not itself apply you to a school. On 27 October 2026, the official 2026 registration window has closed, while the published exam window is still ahead: 2 November to 20 December 2026. The official site has not yet announced a 2027 testing calendar, so applicants planning for a later cycle should treat all 2027 dates and fees as unannounced.
NMAT is the test and score-reporting service. Each participating school controls its own programme eligibility, application form, deadlines, accepted attempt, score threshold and selection process. GMAC explicitly says exam registration and business-school applications are separate. A valid NMAT registration therefore does not reserve an application place at NMIMS or any other institution, and a school’s admission eligibility cannot be inferred from the exam’s own eligibility rules.
The distinction matters especially if you are considering NMIMS. Its programmes may use NMAT as part of their own admission process, but the exam administrator does not set NMIMS’s degree prerequisites, application deadline or shortlist rules. Check each school’s current official admissions page and confirm that the specific programme accepts the testing year and attempt you plan to submit. Acceptance can vary by programme and cycle.
For the 2026 window, registration and first-attempt scheduling ran from 20 August through 25 October. Exam delivery is scheduled from 2 November through 20 December 2026. Retake registration and scheduling are listed from 3 November through 17 December; rescheduling is listed through 17 December. These are the dates currently published for the 2026 exam. The initial registration deadline has passed as of 27 October, so a candidate who did not register should not assume that a new registration is available. Candidates already registered should use their dashboard to confirm their booked appointment and any retake eligibility.
The calendar separates registration, scheduling and test delivery. Registration creates the candidate record and requires payment. Scheduling selects the appointment, mode, location and time, subject to availability. Retake registration opens after the first day of the exam window, and the published retake deadline is not the same as the final test date. A retake must still fit within the available appointment dates and satisfy the gap rule. Do not plan around the last day without checking actual live slots.
The dates page lists a 2026 registration fee of ₹3,000 plus applicable taxes. A retake is ₹3,000 plus taxes; rescheduling is ₹1,200 plus taxes. The first five score reports are included in the registration fee; each additional report is ₹400 plus taxes. Confirm the amount shown in the candidate dashboard before payment, since fees and windows can change by cycle. The official site accepts major credit and debit cards, internet banking and Diners Club. Treat the 2026 fee table as cycle-specific, not as a promise of 2027 pricing.
The current official exam structure contains three individually timed sections, 36 questions each, for 108 questions in 120 minutes. Candidates choose the order of sections at the start. The official structure page gives 28 minutes for Language Skills, 52 minutes for Quantitative Skills and 40 minutes for Logical Reasoning. It describes a section score range of 12–120 and a total range of 36–360. Questions appear one at a time and are selected from a pool; under normal administration, the number of questions, difficulty levels and time limits are predetermined and consistent across administrations.
NMAT is computer-adaptive: the test uses responses to estimate ability and select subsequent questions. This is a reason to answer carefully as you progress, not a reason to guess what the next item will be. The administrator says there is no negative marking, equal weight is assigned to the sections, and section order is selectable. A candidate can move through the exam in a personally useful order, but cannot borrow unused time from one section for another. The official FAQ says questions and completed sections cannot be reviewed. Practise within each section’s own clock rather than relying on unused minutes elsewhere.
Language Skills covers reading comprehension, para forming, error identification, prepositions, sentence completion and analogies in the official structure outline. Quantitative Skills includes number properties, arithmetic, algebra and probability, data integration caselets, tables, graphs and charts, and data sufficiency. Logical Reasoning includes critical reasoning, analytical puzzles, deductions and related reasoning tasks. These published topic labels describe the broad syllabus; they do not promise that every subtopic will appear in a fixed proportion on an individual test.
The current registration guidance permits up to three attempts in a testing year running from 1 July to 30 June: one first attempt and up to two retakes. The current official guidance says a candidate with a valid score may schedule the next attempt immediately, but the appointment must be at least seven days later. A result marked No Show, NDA Refused or Exam Incomplete has a separate rebooking rule: a new slot may be scheduled 24 hours later. Follow the current dashboard instructions for your exact status; older FAQs on the website describe a 15-day gap, so candidates should prioritize the current cycle’s live exam instructions and dashboard over undated or older FAQ text.
The scorecard is generally available for download within 48 hours, with an email notification when ready. The structure page notes that an exam with a test-security incident may be audited, with results published within ten working days. Schools decide which attempt or score they accept. Taking the test multiple times does not guarantee that a school will consider the highest score; verify its stated policy before booking a retake. Use the three-attempt allowance as an option, not as a substitute for checking school rules and arranging enough time between appointments.
For a future cycle, begin on the official NMAT page, create one account with a valid email address, complete the profile and verify the email. Use the same name and date of birth as on the identification document you will present. The registration instructions ask for a recent photograph, taken within six months, that resembles the candidate and matches the photo ID; it appears on the admit card. Duplicate registrations can lead to rejection and forfeiture of the fee, so do not create another account to correct a mistake without contacting support.
After completing the application and payment, use the candidate dashboard to book the exam. The current page describes test-centre scheduling in India: select country, city, centre, date and time from live availability. Slots are first-come, first-served. The exam FAQ also describes online proctored testing at home in India and says candidates outside India can take the exam online at home. Mode availability and requirements can change, so check the current registration dashboard and technical policies for the applicable cycle before paying.
Choose score-report recipients carefully in the School Preferences section. Five reports are included in the 2026 registration price, with an additional charge for each beyond that allowance. Sending a score does not complete a school’s separate application. Check the programme’s own deadline and whether it accepts the relevant test year, attempt and score-report route. Keep the registration confirmation and appointment details, then download the admit card when it becomes available; the registration page says it is downloadable seven days before the exam date.
Start by taking an official practice exam under timed conditions and recording more than the total score. Note accuracy, pace and question types that consume time in each section. Since the sections have different time limits and no cross-section time transfer, a single overall study target can hide a serious weakness. Build short practice blocks around the section clocks: roughly 47 seconds per Language Skills question, 87 seconds per Quantitative Skills question and 67 seconds per Logical Reasoning question on average. These averages are arithmetic from the published section totals, not recommended fixed limits for every question; reading passages and multi-step sets need uneven time.
Use errors to choose the next practice block. For Language Skills, review why a sentence or passage supports one answer over another, then revisit grammar and vocabulary errors. In Quantitative Skills, label the underlying concept before redoing a problem and distinguish calculation mistakes from choosing an inefficient method. For Logical Reasoning, write the premises and conclusion or map the constraints before selecting an answer. Practise changing section order only after you have tested whether the sequence improves focus and leaves you ready for the most demanding section.
GMAC lists an Official Guide, a study plan, two free practice exams and two paid practice exams. Begin with a diagnostic rather than exhausting every mock early. Use later mocks to check whether pacing and accuracy improve, and review wrong answers before attempting another full test. As the format is adaptive and questions are drawn from a pool, memorizing a previous paper is a weak preparation strategy. Learn the underlying methods and practise making accurate decisions under each section’s clock.
The preliminary score is shown immediately after completion, according to the official exam page. The downloadable scorecard with scaled section and total scores is generally available within 48 hours, subject to any security review. Check that the score is released and that the schools you selected can receive it. Then complete each school’s own application and follow its instructions for documents, interviews, work experience or other selection stages. NMAT by GMAC is an entrance test, not a common counselling process; there is no single central seat-allocation round that follows the exam for every accepting school.
Do not use a third-party “cutoff” as a guaranteed admission threshold. Schools can change their shortlisting methods and may combine scores with academic records, work experience, interviews or other criteria. If a school publishes a prior-year score range, treat it as historical context for that programme and cohort, not a current-year promise. This overview does not state a universal NMAT cutoff because no single cutoff governs all participating programmes.
If you have a 2026 appointment, verify the date, mode, centre and admit-card availability in your dashboard, then prepare against the official three-section timing. If you have taken the first attempt, check the score and the current retake gap rule before booking; make sure the retake date is within the remaining window and that target schools will consider that attempt. If you did not register by 25 October, the published 2026 registration window is closed. Watch the official NMAT site for a later cycle announcement and use the waiting period to prepare, but do not treat an anticipated 2027 calendar, fee or school list as confirmed.
Before investing in an attempt, list the exact programmes you might apply to and verify each one’s current NMAT acceptance, degree eligibility, application deadline, score-report instructions and attempt policy on its official admissions site. This simple cross-check prevents a common mismatch: being eligible to sit the test but ineligible for, or too late to apply to, a particular programme.
The official 2026 registration window ended on 25 October 2026. As of 27 October, that date has passed. The exam window runs from 2 November to 20 December for candidates who registered; a new 2027 schedule has not been announced on the official site.
The official NMAT page says there is no negative marking. The exam is adaptive, so answer each question carefully and use timed practice to build a consistent approach.
The current guidance permits three attempts per testing year, including the first attempt and up to two retakes. The required interval depends on the status shown after your previous attempt; check the current dashboard and cycle instructions.
No. The exam administrator allows candidates who register, pay and follow the exam terms to sit the test. Each school sets admission eligibility for its own programmes. Verify the specific programme’s requirements separately.
GMAC says the scorecard is generally available within 48 hours. An exam subject to a security audit may take longer; the official structure page says such results may be published within ten working days.
No. Exam registration and school applications are separate. Apply directly to each programme and follow its own deadline, eligibility rules and score submission instructions.

NMAT, reference rules for 2026. GMAC says test takers who complete registration, pay within the allowed time and follow the exam terms may sit NMAT. The exam administrator places responsibility on the candidate to check each target school’s own admission eligibility before registering. NMAT registration and business-school applications are separate processes. The official registration FAQ warns that duplicate or multiple registrations may lead to rejection and fee forfeiture.
