WBJEE-2027 cutoffs are not available yet
As of 27 October 2026, WBJEEB had not announced a 2027 examination schedule, rank list or counselling cutoff. The latest completed examination cycle is WBJEE-2026, for which the Board released rank cards in June and conducted central and decentralised counselling activity afterward. A 2027 cutoff cannot be estimated from a prior year’s closing rank without the new seat matrix, applicant preferences, round rules and participating institutes.
For WBJEE, “cutoff” can mean different things: the minimum marks or rank to qualify, an institute’s eligibility threshold, or the last rank admitted to a programme in a specific counselling round and quota. These are not interchangeable. The most useful admission comparison is a closing rank tied to an institute, branch, round, quota, category and exam route, such as WBJEE or JEE Main. A single statewide number hides the actual seat context.
Read closing ranks with their full context
WBJEEB’s official opening and closing rank portal for the 2026 counselling cycle presents rows by institute and programme and identifies the rank basis as All India CRL/GMR/PMR. The official portal covers more than one exam route and counselling round. A row showing a WBJEE-seat range must not be confused with a JEE Main-seat range, and an opening rank must not be reported as a closing rank.
Before using any row, record the institution name, programme, quota or seat type, category, round, exam route, opening rank and closing rank. Check whether the entry refers to a regular central round or a decentralised institutional round. A vacancy round can have a different available-seat pool from an earlier round. Comparing two figures without these fields can make a programme appear more or less accessible than the underlying data supports.
The official 2026 OR-CR portal includes a WBJEE-seat range for Computer Science and Engineering at Supreme Knowledge Foundation, with an opening rank of 26,136 and a closing rank of 92,089 in the listed Open Round 1 row. The same portal shows a separate JEE Main-seat range for the institute and branch. This example illustrates why both the admission route and round must be kept attached to a number; it is not a prediction or a general cutoff for CSE.
Eligibility thresholds are different from admission cutoffs
The examination bulletin’s eligibility rules determine who may apply or be considered for particular courses. They do not guarantee an allotment at a particular rank. Likewise, a counselling rank range does not replace academic eligibility, document verification or any institute-specific condition. Candidates should first confirm the relevant course eligibility in the current bulletin and then compare their rank with the matching counselling rows.
The 2026 counselling notices used separate processes for central allotment and decentralised institutional vacancy counselling. The central notice described three rounds. A later official notice addressed decentralised counselling and vacant seats. These are cycle-specific arrangements; do not assume that the 2027 number or sequence of rounds will match. The relevant 2027 notice and seat matrix must be checked when published.
Why a rank may move between years
Closing ranks are the result of a particular year’s seat availability and candidate choices, not a fixed property of a college. Changes in seat count, course offerings, preference patterns, category pools, exam participation and counselling procedure can all affect the observed range. A later vacancy round can also operate on seats left after earlier choices. Without consistent, row-level data for the same programme and quota, a year-on-year comparison may not be meaningful.
If comparing 2025 and 2026, use the same institution, branch, quota, category, round and exam route where possible. If a field differs or is missing, state the difference rather than combining the records. Do not average opening and closing ranks, or combine rounds into a purported “cutoff score”; these values answer different questions. Rank is not marks, and a rank-to-marks conversion needs an official or clearly qualified score distribution.
How to use the official OR-CR portal
Open the official WBJEE counselling portal linked from WBJEEB’s current site. Select the exact year and relevant counselling process, then locate the row for the intended institute and programme. Verify the quota, category and round before recording the opening and closing ranks. Save the source page or official PDF along with the extracted values, because a number copied without its row labels can lose the scope required to interpret it.
For a practical shortlist, compare several programmes rather than one institution-wide range. Include realistic alternatives and check travel, fees and course fit separately. A closing rank near your rank indicates only that a seat was allotted to a candidate at that rank in the stated context. It is not an individual probability, guarantee or assurance that the same seat will be available in another cycle.
Current information and next update
WBJEEB published the 2026 result notice on 17 June, stating that rank cards would be available from 18 June 2026. The central counselling notice followed on 29 June and described three rounds for Engineering, Technology and Architecture. A later notice dated 1 September 2026 covered decentralised counselling. The official current-events page listed subsequent vacancy-related notices in October. These dates establish the 2026 sequence only.
No 2027 closing-rank table or cutoff was published in the official material checked on 27 October 2026. When the next cycle’s OR-CR data becomes available, use that data for the current comparison and label it by round and seat pool. Until then, 2026 rows can support historical planning but should not be relabelled as 2027 cutoffs.
A short comparison checklist
When a candidate’s rank is available, use this sequence to interpret a published row:
- Match the course and institute exactly; similarly named programmes may have different seat pools.
- Confirm whether the row is under WBJEE or JEE Main admission and identify the stated quota.
- Match the category and round. Do not compare an open-category regular-round row with a reserved-category vacancy-round row as though they were equivalent.
- Read the opening and closing rank labels and preserve the rank type shown by the portal.
- Check the published seat matrix and current counselling notice for changes to the available seats or procedure.
If the portal supplies a downloadable report, keep the report’s year and round in your notes. If it supplies an interactive table, record the filter selections alongside the extracted row. This makes a later comparison reproducible and helps catch accidental mixing of seat types. When a field is unclear, use the official counselling help route rather than inferring its meaning from an aggregator’s summary.
An applicant should also distinguish a cutoff comparison from choice filling. Choice lists should reflect genuine preference order, because rank tables describe past allotments rather than instructions for ordering choices. Check the live rules for choice editing, locking, upgrades, reporting and withdrawal before making a decision. A historical closing rank can help identify options to investigate, but it cannot determine which option a candidate should prefer or whether the candidate will receive a seat.
For this reason, use cutoff figures as a screening aid, then verify every current decision against the official counselling notice and the candidate’s own eligibility and documents. No past allotment removes those requirements.
