Exam Date
WBJEE is the West Bengal Joint Entrance Examination conducted by the West Bengal Joint Entrance Examinations Board (WBJEEB). The board’s 2026 information bulletin describes a common entrance test for undergraduate Engineering, Technology, Pharmacy and Architecture admissions in universities, government colleges, government-aided institutions and self-financing institutes in West Bengal. The 2026 exam was an offline, OMR-based test. Its purpose is to produce merit ranks used in eligible admission routes; the examination itself is one step in admission, not a seat offer.
This page is current to 27 October 2026. The WBJEEB examination page still presents the 2026 cycle and its completed examination date. It did not show a 2027 schedule during this research pass. For a student planning for 2027, the 2026 facts below are a dated reference for understanding the process. They do not establish the next exam date, registration window, fee, syllabus changes or counselling rules. Recheck the board’s WBJEE page and the next information bulletin when WBJEEB publishes them.
The distinction matters because WBJEEB has used separate notices for the exam, result, centralized e-counselling and later vacancy filling. A date from one stage cannot be used to infer another. Use the official notice that owns the decision in front of you: the information bulletin for exam and eligibility rules, the result notice for rank-card release, and current counselling notices for choices, seat acceptance, reporting and later vacancies.
The 2026 examination had Paper I in Mathematics and Paper II in Physics and Chemistry. Both papers were scheduled on the same day, 24 May 2026: Mathematics from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m., then Physics and Chemistry from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. Each paper lasted two hours. The gap between papers was one hour, so a candidate taking both had to manage a full examination day rather than a single sitting.
Paper choice affected which ranks could be issued. A candidate who appeared in both papers could be considered for a General Merit Rank (GMR) and a Pharmacy Merit Rank (PMR). A candidate who appeared only in Paper II could be considered for PMR and Pharmacy admissions other than Jadavpur University. Paper I alone did not lead to a rank under the 2026 bulletin. For most Engineering, Technology and Architecture routes, GMR is the relevant rank; Pharmacy routes generally use PMR, while the bulletin specifically says Jadavpur University Pharmacy admission is based on GMR. Candidates should therefore decide which programmes they may want before choosing papers, then confirm the next cycle’s rules rather than relying on an old paper-selection assumption.
GMR is calculated from the combined score in Paper I and Paper II. PMR is based on Paper II, which contains Physics and Chemistry. WBJEEB issues rank cards with scores and ranks to individual candidates; the bulletin says it does not publish a public score or rank list. The category position shown on a rank card helps describe a candidate’s category standing, but the board’s 2026 bulletin says counselling order is based on GMR or PMR, as applicable, rather than category rank. A rank should be read in the context of the programme, seat category, quota, eligibility rules and counselling round.
WBJEE-2026 used four-option multiple-choice questions and an OMR response sheet. The bulletin divided questions into three scoring categories. Category 1 questions had one correct answer and were worth one mark, with a quarter-mark deduction for an incorrect response. Category 2 questions also had one correct answer, were worth two marks and carried a half-mark deduction for an incorrect response. Category 3 questions could have one or more correct options. Full credit required all correct options and no incorrect options; a partially correct selection could earn proportional marks when no wrong option was selected. An unattempted question received zero.
The 2026 distribution was 75 Mathematics questions for 100 marks, 40 Physics questions for 50 marks and 40 Chemistry questions for 50 marks. This means Mathematics contributed half of the 200 available marks and each Paper II subject contributed one quarter. That arithmetic is a description of the 2026 table, not a forecast of difficulty or a statement that one subject is easier. The official syllabus is subject-wise in the bulletin’s appendix. Use its listed topics as the coverage boundary and practise all three question categories so that multiple-select and negative-marking decisions are familiar.
OMR technique is part of the test format. The board required candidates to darken the chosen bubble completely with the blue or black ballpoint pen provided at the centre. The 2026 bulletin warns that incomplete or non-standard marks can be read as wrong, partial or ambiguous and that responses cannot be edited after marking. This makes careful question-booklet and OMR-number matching, a deliberate bubble check, and an answer-transfer routine useful practice habits. They are practical implications of the documented format, not additional board rules.
The 2026 bulletin allowed Indian citizens and OCI candidates, subject to competent-authority approval; OCI candidates were restricted to unreserved seats in the All-India quota. For appearing in the 2026 examination, a candidate had to have passed the 10+2 equivalent before 2026 or be appearing in 2026. The lower age limit was 17 years as of 31 December 2026, with no upper age limit for appearing. Marine Engineering had a separate upper age limit of 25 years as of that date.
These are exam-entry rules, not a single eligibility rule for every seat. The bulletin sets general subject and marks criteria for Engineering/Technology, Pharmacy, Architecture, Marine Engineering and Mining Engineering, then lists additional criteria for particular universities and courses. For example, its general Pharmacy route required Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics or Biology, while its Architecture section included a 10+2 marks condition and an aptitude-test condition. Institutional exceptions can add or refine requirements. Jadavpur University’s 2026 rules differed by course and category; a candidate cannot infer eligibility from a general WBJEE rank alone.
Domicile, reservation and Tuition Fee Waiver claims also require evidence. The 2026 bulletin describes West Bengal domicile certificates, category documents and an income certificate for TFW. It states that TFW eligibility requires West Bengal domicile and annual family income below ₹2.50 lakh, and that the waiver covers tuition only. Applicable reservation and seat rules depend on the institution and competent authority. The 2026 counselling notices also reflected later government and board updates, so a candidate should check the current notice and document format instead of reusing a certificate assumption from an earlier year.
Institutes verify claims during or after counselling. WBJEEB’s bulletin says incorrect information or missing valid documents may make a candidate ineligible even after a merit rank, and it cautions that a rank does not ensure admission if the applicant does not meet the requirements. Before ranking choices, check the exact course’s qualifying subjects, minimum marks, domicile or category conditions, and the validity and issuing authority of each required certificate.
After the exam, the 2026 bulletin described a sequence of model answer keys, a time-limited answer-key challenge, final frozen keys, OMR images and machine-read responses, followed by rank cards. The result notice dated 17 June 2026 said results would be published on 18 June and downloadable rank cards would be available from 4 p.m. that day on the board websites. These are completed 2026 milestones. The notice did not announce a 2027 result date.
A score and a rank answer different questions. The score records performance under the scoring rules; a rank orders eligible candidates within the relevant merit list. A rank card may also display category positions, but WBJEEB’s 2026 counselling notification says allotment depends on the applicable merit rank, course eligibility, reservation status, seat availability and the order of locked choices. Historical opening and closing ranks are therefore useful for researching a preference list, but they do not guarantee a later allotment.
For the 2026 session, the board issued a centralized online counselling notification on 29 June for Engineering, Technology and Architecture. That notice said candidates could enter with a valid WBJEE-2026 GMR or JEE Main-2026 AIR, as applicable, and that the approved seat matrix governed the choices offered. Pharmacy had its own notice and counselling path. WBJEEB later published a revised Common Online Decentralised Counselling notification for residual and resultant vacancies. The current-events page checked on 27 October 2026 listed later vacancy notices, including notices dated 12 October. These routes are cycle-specific; a 2027 applicant should use the new notices when issued.
Start with the programme route. If you may apply to Engineering, Technology or Architecture, find out which rank and paper combination will be accepted in the next official bulletin. If you may apply to Pharmacy, check whether your target institution uses GMR or PMR and whether the course has additional subject requirements. For Architecture, verify the current Council of Architecture and institution rules alongside WBJEEB’s bulletin. Do this before selecting papers or assuming a qualifying rank will unlock every programme.
Next, separate the exam calendar from admission. The 2026 board page recorded registration from 10 March to 8 April and the examination on 24 May. The 2026 result notice announced rank cards for 18 June. Counselling notices came after results and later changed as the board published schedules, corrections and vacancy rounds. This sequence is a useful planning model, but it does not support exact 2027 dates. Treat each official notice as the source for its own deadline and check for revisions before acting.
Then prepare around the documented format. The 2026 subject table assigned 100 marks to Mathematics and 50 each to Physics and Chemistry; all subjects contained multiple scoring categories. Use the next cycle’s syllabus, once published, to build a complete topic checklist. Use official old papers if available to practise OMR-compatible answer selection, and keep a separate record of errors from concept gaps, calculation slips, uncertain multi-select choices and time pressure. A practice score is a diagnostic, not a forecast of rank or admission.
Finally, protect the documents that will be checked later. Keep the application confirmation page, admit card, rank card, OMR and response records, and any category, domicile or income certificate in the required form. WBJEEB advises candidates to preserve portal-generated documents; institutions perform their own verification. Check the candidate portal and counselling notices yourself, because the rules and choices can change after the examination.

WBJEE, reference rules for 2026-27. For WBJEE-2026, applicants had to be Indian citizens or approved OCI candidates and pass or appear in 10+2 in 2026. The 2026 age floor was 17 by 31 December 2026; there was no general upper age limit to appear. Degree-level Marine Engineering had a 25-year upper age limit as of 31 December 2026. General 2026 Engineering/Technology rules allowed the AICTE subject combinations and required 45% across the relevant subjects, or 40% for listed reserved categories. Jadavpur University’s 2026 Engineering/Technology criteria set category-specific marks for PCM and Mathematics, plus an English minimum. The general 2026 Pharmacy criteria required Physics, Chemistry, Mathematics or Biology and 45% in the three subjects, or 40% for listed reserved categories. The general 2026 Architecture rules required 50% in PCM and 50% overall; the bulletin named NATA, with a Jadavpur-specific NATA or JEE Main Paper II route. A WBJEE rank did not ensure admission if the candidate failed the applicable course requirements. Check the applicable programme, category and admission-year rules in the official source; this summary is not a universal admission guarantee. WBJEE, recorded source/content edition 2026-27. Source facts checked in the saved October 2026 research; no later-cycle rule is asserted. Category I has one correct option, awards 1 mark, deducts 0.25 for an incorrect or multiple-option response, and gives zero for an unattempted question. Category II has one correct option, awards 2 marks, deducts 0.5 for an incorrect or multiple-option response, and gives zero for a blank. Category III permits one or more correct options; all correct options earn 2 marks, partial correct-only selections receive proportional marks, and any incorrect option makes the response zero. Appearing in both papers makes a candidate eligible for GMR and PMR; Paper II alone qualifies for PMR only, while Paper I alone yields no rank under the 2026 bulletin. GMR uses combined Paper I and Paper II scores; PMR uses Paper II scores only. The 2026 bulletin uses GMR for Engineering, Technology, Architecture and Pharmacy at Jadavpur University; other Pharmacy courses use PMR.
