Polytechnic :: 3 year Diploma
What is Polytechnic?
Polytechnic is made up of two words- poly + technic. Poly means learning a lot of arts and technique means technology. That means polytechnic diploma is a course where we learn much technology, in different areas like mechanical, electrical, electronics, computers, communication, and instruments, etc.
Polytechnic course is a 3-year regular course in which Regular Class is to be attended. It focuses on skills and practical knowledge. There is less focus on theoretical knowledge because the purpose of the Polytechnic course is Practical skill Development.
The fees for government colleges are low. Therefore, people who have a financial problem but want to learn something well, the polytechnic diploma is a very good option. Fees in the Private Polytechnic Diploma are slightly higher than the Government Institute, but career options are similar to both.

Every polytechnic college has limited seats in every course for which many candidates apply.
Admission based on Merit
Merit is the base of Admission in some states like Rajasthan and Odisha. There is no admission test for admission in these states. students have to register online for the process in which general information such as name, address, board name, number of information is required. To fill the online application form, the application fee is also paid which is different in every state.
 The merit lists are made based on 10th or 12th marks. Candidates having high marks are called for counseling in which some documents are required to be submitted for admission. Therefore, to get admission in polytechnic, it is necessary to get good marks in class 10 or 12th.
Admission based on Entrance Exam
The entrance test is required in many states for admission. After submitting the application form in those states, ‘Admit card’ is issued online which is the hall ticket for the examination? The test is offline, i.e. written test. Candidates who clear these entrance exams are called for counseling and admission is given based on their rank in the entrance exam. Candidates, who want to clear this entrance examination, have to study very well so that they can get a good rank.
The pattern of Entrance Exam
The entrance exam is taken offline in every state. This exam is objective type (multiple choice) in which 4 questions are given for each question, one answer is correct. Negative markings are also done in some states. Negative marking means that the number is cut when a wrong answer is given. The questions of science and mathematics are asked at the entrance of the diploma course.
Counseling and Admission
Counseling is done after the Entrance Examination based on the rank of student in the exam. Following Entrance Examination, if a student does not get a good rank, then he gets a private college, where the fee is generally Rs. 30000/- to Rs. 35000/- per year. On the contrary, if his rank is good, he gets a government college, where the fee is somewhere between Rs. 8000/- to Rs. 12000/- per year. The most popular option after 3 Year Diploma Course is to select B. Tech or BE, especially from the engineering domain. For this, the candidates will have to join the engineering entrance examination for college and course. Many engineering colleges offer lateral entry to the college diploma holders. Lateral Entry means that student can join the engineering program directly in the second year or may join the third semester of B.Tech / BE. In some colleges, separate entrance examinations are held for admission to the diploma holders through Lateral Entry Scheme.
AIME Certification
Another option after 3 Year Diploma Course holder with an engineering background is the AIME certification course. AMIE (Associate Member of the Institutions of Engineers) certification is a professional certification degree equivalent to BE. Candidates completing AIME Certification Course are honored by the Engineering Institute, India by AIME Certificate. There are two sections in the AIME examination and this course takes about 4 years to complete. However, polytechnic diploma holders do not need to do Stream A, i.e. project work.
