CMAT registration: complete each stage and save proof
CMAT registration is an NTA application process. For 2026, the information bulletin described four practical stages: register to generate an application number; complete the form with personal, education, programme and test-city information; pay the examination fee; and download the confirmation page after successful payment. The process was online through the official CMAT website. The next cycle’s application dates, fee and form instructions were not announced on the portal as checked on 27 October 2026, so use the 2026 details below only as a process reference.
Before starting a future form, read the current information bulletin and prepare your information and documents. Use an email address and mobile number you can access throughout the exam and admissions period. NTA’s 2026 bulletin warned that submitted details may be treated as final and explained that a limited correction window may apply. A correction window is not a substitute for completing the original form accurately.
Step 1: create the application record
Open the official CMAT portal from NTA and choose the registration link for the correct examination year. Enter identifying details as they appear in your official documents. Create the login credentials requested by the portal and store them safely. NTA’s 2026 bulletin says the system-generated application number is needed to complete the remaining steps and for later reference. Save it immediately; do not rely on a browser tab or email search as your only record.
Check that your phone and email are accessible. Important communication may be sent to those contacts. Avoid using a temporary number or an account you rarely check. Before continuing, review spelling, date of birth, category and contact fields against your supporting records.
Step 2: complete the form and uploads
The form asks for personal details, educational qualifications, programme and test-paper information, examination-city preferences and required image or certificate uploads. Follow the current instructions for file type, size, background and legibility. The 2026 bulletin specified image requirements for the photograph and signature and separate document requirements for applicable PwD/PwBD submissions. Since technical specifications can change, check the next cycle’s upload guide rather than reusing an old file without review.
Enter degree information carefully. Final-year candidates should select the status that matches the application options and retain proof of enrolment. Choose examination-city preferences with travel feasibility in mind, but remember that city intimation is not the final centre address. Centre details and reporting time are communicated through the admit card. Preferences, city allocation and final centre are related but distinct.
Step 3: pay the fee and confirm submission
In 2026, payment was online through the modes listed in the bulletin. NTA said the confirmation page would be generated after successful payment and advised candidates to download and save it. A bank debit alone is not the best proof that the NTA application is complete. Return to the portal to verify transaction status and confirmation page. If the page is not generated, follow the official payment help instructions before paying again, because duplicate transactions may need resolution.
The 2026 fee schedule varied by gender and category: General (UR) male candidates were listed at ₹2,500, General (UR) female candidates at ₹1,250, and the specified General-EWS, SC, ST, PwD/PwBD and OBC-NCL candidates at ₹1,250 for male and female applicants; third-gender candidates were also listed at ₹1,250. Applicable processing charges and GST were additional. These are not 2027 fees. Wait for NTA’s current fee table before budgeting a new application.
Step 4: use corrections carefully
NTA provided a limited correction period for CMAT-2026. Its notice specified fields that could be edited and details that could not be changed, including mobile number, email and address. It allowed changes to some candidate and education details and examination-city preferences under published conditions. A one-time correction limit applied after submission, and additional fees could apply where relevant. These rules were specific to 2026. For another cycle, the current correction notice and field list control.
If you find a mistake, identify the exact field and check the current notice before editing. Do not send changes by informal email or social media when NTA instructs applicants to use the portal. After submitting a correction, download the updated confirmation and verify that the new information is visible. Keep the original and corrected versions.
Common application failures to prevent
- Using an unofficial link: begin at cmat.nta.nic.in and follow its candidate activity links.
- Missing payment completion: check NTA transaction status and download the confirmation page.
- Entering contact details you cannot access: NTA may use the registered details for updates.
- Uploading an unreadable image or certificate: confirm current file rules and inspect files before upload.
- Assuming every detail can be changed later: use the correction notice to check allowed fields and dates.
- Confusing exam registration with college applications: CMAT registration does not apply you to participating institutions. NTA says candidates must apply separately.
After you submit
Save the application number, login instructions, payment receipt and confirmation page. Check the NTA portal and registered email for correction notices, city information, admit-card release and later updates. On exam day, follow the admit-card instructions and retain the card for future reference. After scores are released, submit separate applications to each programme you want to consider and track each institution’s deadline.
The official documents page provides the current bulletin and notices. The NTA portal reviewed on 27 October 2026 still presented CMAT-2026 information; do not assume the next application has opened until an official notice appears. Treat registration as complete only when the portal confirms submission, not when a form has merely been started.
