The Common Management Admission Test (CMAT) is a national management entrance examination conducted by the National Testing Agency (NTA). The official NTA portal currently describes CMAT-2026 as a computer-based test for management admissions in academic session 2026-27. Checked on 27 October 2026, the official portal displayed CMAT-2026 notices and scorecard links, but no CMAT-2027 notification. Applicants planning the next cycle should treat every 2026 date, fee, eligibility rule and pattern below as the last published reference, not as a confirmed 2027 schedule. Follow the official CMAT portal for the next bulletin and corrigenda.
CMAT is an entrance score, not a central seat-allocation process. NTA registers candidates, conducts the test, publishes answer-key processes and declares scores. NTA says it does not conduct counselling for management admissions. Candidates apply separately to institutions they choose; each institution sets its own qualifying CMAT score and may add a group discussion, interview or other selection steps. The practical consequence is that a CMAT score alone does not create a college application, guarantee an interview, or reserve a seat. Build a separate institution list and track each school’s programme-specific application and selection calendar.
For CMAT-2026, the information bulletin required a bachelor’s degree in any discipline and Indian citizenship. Candidates in the final year of a bachelor’s programme could apply if their result would be declared before the start of admissions for academic year 2026-27. The bulletin stated that there was no age restriction for appearing in CMAT-2026. These are examination rules for the 2026 cycle. A college may impose separate programme eligibility conditions, including minimum marks, degree completion date, subject requirements or documentation rules, so an exam application should not be treated as proof of admission eligibility.
A useful self-check is to answer four questions before paying: do you meet the NTA conditions in the new bulletin; can your university issue final results before the intended admission cycle begins; do your target programmes accept CMAT for that cycle; and do you meet each programme’s own degree and marks rules? If your answer depends on a final-year result, check both the exam deadline and each institution’s date by which the degree must be completed. If you use a reservation or disability category, read the bulletin’s evidence requirements and the receiving institution’s rules separately. An exam application category is not a substitute for a college’s document verification.
The CMAT-2026 bulletin described 100 multiple-choice questions across five equally sized sections: Quantitative Techniques and Data Interpretation, Logical Reasoning, Language Comprehension, General Awareness, and Innovation & Entrepreneurship. Each section had 20 questions and 80 marks, for 400 marks overall. The test duration was 180 minutes, and the question paper was in English. Under the 2026 marking scheme, a correct answer earned four marks, an incorrect answer lost one mark, and an unattempted question earned no marks. The bulletin also describes how answers affected by a revised key or dropped question would be treated. Candidates should rely on the final key and score rather than unofficial answer estimates.
This pattern rewards balanced preparation. Every section has the same question count and maximum marks, so a candidate should not assume that one section is optional or that presumed chapter weightage is official. General Awareness and Innovation & Entrepreneurship differ from calculation-led sections in the kinds of practice they need. Create section-wise error logs: concept gaps, careless errors, time loss and questions correctly left unattempted. The negative mark makes an informed skip a legitimate choice when an answer has no defensible basis. Do not use an unofficial prediction of question distribution as a reason to omit a syllabus area.
NTA’s bulletin explains percentile as a relative score: the proportion of candidates scoring equal to or below a candidate. It distinguishes percentile from percentage of marks. A 90 percentile is not 90% marks. The normalization appendix is framed for multi-session examinations; NTA’s result announcement says the 2026 test was held in a single shift. Read the scorecard’s reported fields as issued, and do not apply a multi-shift calculation to the 2026 single-shift result. A percentile describes performance in the exam population; a college cutoff is an institution-specific admission filter and may be only one component of selection.
The CMAT-2026 application opened on 17 October 2025. The bulletin initially listed 17 November 2025 at 11:50 p.m. as the last date to submit the form and 18 November 2025 at 11:50 p.m. as the fee-payment deadline. NTA later published an application deadline extension notice, so the original bulletin dates should not be mistaken for the final closing dates of that cycle. The application process consisted of registration, completing the form, paying the examination fee and downloading the confirmation page. Candidates were told to use the NTA website, enter their own contact details, review information before submission and keep the confirmation page.
The 2026 bulletin listed the examination fee as ₹2,500 for General (UR) male candidates and ₹1,250 for General (UR) female candidates; it listed ₹1,250 for male and female candidates in General-EWS, SC, ST, PwD/PwBD and OBC-NCL categories, and ₹1,250 for third-gender candidates. Payment-provider charges and GST could be additional. These figures belong to CMAT-2026. Do not budget or submit payment for a later attempt using them until NTA publishes its next bulletin. The 2026 application included a correction period, but NTA limited which fields could change. Treat a correction window as a narrow repair opportunity, not permission to enter guessed details.
NTA declared CMAT-2026 scores on 17 February 2026. It reported 53,453 registered candidates and 41,872 who appeared, an attendance rate of 78.33%. Those counts describe the 2026 cohort; they are not a forecast of the next applicant pool. Download the scorecard from the official portal and save the original file. Compare your overall and section results with current requirements of each target institution, not with generic online cutoffs that may mix programmes, years or selection stages.
A practical application tracker should record the exact degree or PGDM programme, accepted exam and score year, application deadline, fee, published cutoff or shortlist rule, selection components, required documents, interview dates and offer-acceptance deadline. Distinguish an application eligibility threshold from a competitive shortlist level and from a final offer. If a college publishes only a composite selection process, do not infer that meeting a CMAT percentile guarantees admission. NTA says it does not collect institution seat totals or reservation criteria, so those questions belong to each institution or its designated admission authority.
For a future attempt, monitor the NTA CMAT website for a new information bulletin, public notices and amendments. Recheck dates, eligibility, section structure, fee, city selection, correction rules and accommodations when that notice appears. Then confirm target colleges directly: whether the programme accepts CMAT, which score year it accepts, whether a separate application is required, and how shortlisting and final selection work. Keep copies of your registration confirmation, payment proof, admit card, response or answer-key records, scorecard and admission applications.
CMAT can be one route into management education, but fit depends on the programmes you intend to pursue, their costs and outcomes, location, curriculum and your alternatives. Use the exam score to open relevant application routes, then compare those programmes on their own published evidence. Do not treat a broad statement that CMAT is accepted by AICTE-approved institutions as a promise that every approved institution offers your chosen degree or will accept every year’s score. Confirm at the programme and campus level before paying an application fee.
The NTA process continues after the exam. For CMAT-2026, NTA made recorded responses and provisional answer keys available for a time-limited challenge period, then finalized the key and declared scores. A candidate disputing an answer needed to use the official challenge route within the published dates and follow the prescribed fee and evidence rules. Save the response sheet, question paper, challenged question identifiers and payment acknowledgement while the portal provides them. A challenge is an input to NTA’s review; it is not a promise that a score will change. After the final result, use the scorecard rather than an unofficial answer-key calculator as your admission record.
The 2026 bulletin states that candidates should download scorecards from the CMAT website and that no scorecard is dispatched by post. The result announcement provides cohort counts for the 2026 sitting, but those counts do not indicate how many people will apply to each college or what any institution will shortlist. Do not convert the number of test-takers into a cutoff forecast. An institution’s application pool, programme capacity, applicant preferences and selection method are different quantities.
Start by defining what you need from a management programme: subject area, location, full-time or other format, total cost, schedule, career support and the kind of work you hope to pursue. Then verify each programme’s current admission notice. Check the actual campus and degree title; a college group may operate multiple campuses with different programmes and processes. Confirm that CMAT is accepted for the relevant admission year, whether the score is only an eligibility screen or is part of a composite score, and whether additional tests, interviews or written tasks are required.
Use published evidence to compare options. Separate tuition from hostel, deposits and other charges. Read placement reports for the correct programme and cohort, and distinguish median from average, salary from cost-to-company, and outcomes from promotional claims. If a college does not publish a figure or selection criterion, mark it as unavailable and contact admissions instead of filling the gap with an aggregator estimate. A verified but incomplete comparison is safer than a precise-looking table built from mismatched years.
The official NTA description says CMAT scores are accepted across categories of AICTE-approved institutions and university departments, while also telling candidates to apply separately to the participating institutions. That broad scope is useful for discovery, but it is not a current list of all programmes. Confirm the specific course on the institution’s own admissions page before paying. If a state authority coordinates admissions for a set of colleges, verify its separate process and dates; do not assume NTA runs it.
The 2026 cycle is the most recent one listed on the official portal as of the date above. The next bulletin may change fee amounts, application dates, exam pattern, test cities, eligibility or correction rules. Build an action plan around announcement triggers rather than predicted dates: check the NTA portal periodically, subscribe to no unofficial guarantee, and save the dated notices once they appear. When the next bulletin is issued, compare it line by line against the previous one and update your checklist from the responsible document.
Until then, you can prepare in ways that do not depend on future policy: assess the five 2026 sections, strengthen weak fundamentals, practise timed questions, and research the colleges whose programme-level rules you may need to meet. Do not commit to travel, fee payments or admission assumptions based on a guessed schedule. If a decision depends on an unannounced rule, mark it as pending and revisit it when NTA publishes the new information.
