MAH MBA/MMS CET eligibility: separate the exam from CAP
The eligibility paragraph in the State CET Cell’s MAH MBA/MMS CET 2026 brochure answers who could appear for the 2026 examination. It does not by itself establish every condition for a 2027–28 MBA/MMS seat. The brochure is explicitly for the 2026 test and 2026–27 admissions, and it says admission eligibility follows the previous year’s CAP information brochure. For the next cycle, read the examination brochure and the MBA/MMS CAP brochure together before deciding that you qualify.
2026 rules for appearing in the examination
For the 2026 CET, the brochure set out two routes. A candidate who had passed a bachelor’s degree of at least three years, awarded by a university recognised by the UGC or AIU, in any discipline, could appear with at least 50% aggregate marks or equivalent. The stated threshold was 45% for backward-class, EWS and PwD candidates belonging to Maharashtra State only. The alternative was a candidate who had appeared in the final-year examination of a qualifying bachelor’s degree from a UGC- or AIU-recognised university. The brochure did not restrict the degree discipline in the wording of this appearance rule.
The category-related 45% threshold is carefully scoped. It is not a general concession for every reserved-category applicant in India. The 2026 CET brochure ties it to specified categories and Maharashtra State belonging. A candidate outside that scope should not assume that the lower threshold applies merely because another state or institution uses the same category label. Check the applicable 2027–28 rules and, where needed, ask the CET Cell before submitting the form.
How aggregate marks are calculated
The 2026 brochure defined aggregate marks by reference to the subjects on which the candidate’s degree-awarding university declares the class. If the university awards grades or CGPA, the percentage conversion must follow the procedure certified by that university or institution. The brochure says the resulting percentage is rounded to two places after the decimal. That means a candidate should not substitute a generic conversion such as multiplying CGPA by ten unless the awarding institution has officially certified that method.
Ask the university’s examination office for the official conversion rule and keep the document or link. If the transcript presents both CGPA and marks, use the form’s instructions to determine which is required. The central issue is consistency: the number in the CET form should be reproducible from the awarding institution’s records. If you are near the threshold, resolve the method before paying the application fee rather than relying on an unofficial calculator.
Final-year candidates
The 2026 exam brochure allowed candidates who had appeared for the final-year bachelor’s examination to appear for CET. That is permission to sit the entrance test; it should not be read as an unconditional promise of admission before the qualifying degree is completed. CAP verification can require degree results and supporting documents by its own deadline. The 2026 brochure itself points candidates to a CAP brochure for admission eligibility, so a final-year candidate should check both the current CET and CAP documents and track the later result-submission instructions.
If the degree result is pending, keep the final-year examination proof and follow the current application portal’s instructions for entering marks or status. Do not enter predicted marks as final marks. Once the university declares the result, follow the CAP portal’s deadline and upload procedure. The timing, permissible status and consequences of a missing result are cycle-specific and should be verified in the 2027–28 CAP notice.
Category and document questions belong to the admission rules
For the 2026–27 process, the CET brochure noted that applicable category claims require documents during CAP application. It named caste certificate, caste validity certificate and non-creamy-layer certificate where applicable, as well as EWS and PwD certificates when relevant. The brochure’s listed non-creamy-layer validity ran through 31 March 2027 for that cycle. This date is historical; it does not establish the validity period for 2027–28.
Do not treat an examination-fee concession as proof of eligibility for an admission seat or reservation. The 2026 fee table and the CAP category rules address different decisions. A candidate should use the current CAP brochure to check Maharashtra candidature, category, certificate format, issuing authority, validity date and any other requirements. A document that was accepted for an earlier year may have expired or may not meet the new portal’s conditions.
Degree recognition and discipline
The 2026 appearance rule accepted a bachelor’s degree in any discipline, but it required the awarding university to be recognised by UGC or AIU. If your degree is from an overseas institution, an autonomous body, a distance-learning programme or a non-standard qualification, do not infer eligibility from the phrase “any discipline.” Check the current brochure’s treatment of equivalence and the CAP rules that apply to your candidature. The 2026 material cited here does not settle every equivalency case.
Before filling the form, confirm that your degree certificate or provisional certificate identifies the awarding institution and programme, and keep transcripts for all years. If the institution uses a nonstandard percentage conversion, seek a written certified rule. Where your category or domicile status affects eligibility, assemble the current certificates early and compare the names and dates across documents. Small differences in spelling or expired validity periods can create avoidable verification problems.
What to verify for 2027–28
As of 27 October 2026, the official documents opened for this guide describe the 2026 CET and the 2026–27 CAP year. The 2027–28 eligibility brochure was not among the checked official materials. When the next documents are published, confirm the minimum degree duration, recognition standard, aggregate threshold, category exceptions, final-year status, percentage conversion, and the CAP admission rules. Also check whether the current admission route includes the exact institute and programme you plan to choose.
Use the CET Cell MBA/MMS page for exam materials and the official CAP index to locate the course admission portal for its listed year. The index currently points to 2026–27; follow the current-cycle entry when published. Until then, the prior-cycle thresholds are a reference for planning, not a certification that you meet the upcoming year’s rules.
