CAP begins after the entrance examination
MHT-CET is an entrance examination; it does not itself allot a college seat. For Academic Year 2026-27, Maharashtra ran separate Centralized Admission Process (CAP) portals for engineering and technology, pharmacy and agriculture programmes. Each authority publishes its own brochure, registration instructions, merit lists, seat matrix, option or preference process, round allotments and reporting requirements. A candidate with an MHT-CET score must still complete the applicable CAP steps for each course.
The 2027 CAP schedule and rules are not announced in the material checked as of 27 October 2026. Use the 2026-27 portals as examples of how the process is organized, not as an active schedule for the next cycle. The official State CET Cell advises applicants to follow the relevant course admission portal for current CAP notices. Start from the CET Cell site, choose the programme area and open the live-year portal linked by the authority.
Register and complete document scrutiny
When the new portal opens, read the information brochure before creating the CAP application. Confirm which examination scores are accepted, which candidature route applies, the documents required and how an application is confirmed. CAP registration is separate from the MHT-CET examination form. Some applicants may use another qualifying examination for a particular seat pool or programme; the exact rule depends on that course’s brochure and should be checked directly.
Enter personal and academic information carefully and upload the requested evidence in the announced format. Candidature, category, domicile, qualifying examination and disability documents can determine which merit list or seat pool applies. A candidate who cannot substantiate a claim may be considered differently or become ineligible for a category. Do not assume that a category selected in the CET form has been verified for admission.
Follow the current scrutiny process. The portal may specify online self-verification, a scrutiny centre or another process. Check each file’s status and respond to deficiencies within the announced window. Save submitted forms, document acknowledgements and correction receipts. Read both provisional and final merit lists: the provisional list may allow a correction or grievance process, while the final list is the record used for subsequent stages under the rules.
Build a preference list from the current seat matrix
Before filling preferences, download the current-year seat matrix and understand the seat pools, institute codes, branch names and categories. A seat matrix shows what is available for a particular round; it is not the same as a cutoff. Compare it with official previous-year allotment and cutoff records to understand context, but do not assume that a previous closing rank will repeat.
Order choices by what you genuinely prefer and would accept, while following the brochure’s rules for number of choices, locking, editing and confirmation. Include a range of courses and institutes that meet your academic and financial needs. Check the exact programme title, campus, approved intake, affiliation and total fees. Do not put an option higher simply because an informal predictor shows a favorable chance.
The current portal will explain how a candidate can accept a seat, retain eligibility for later rounds, seek improvement or report to an institute. These options can have consequences, so read the rule before selecting. Record your final preference form and its locked status. After an allotment, download the result and follow the payment, acceptance and reporting instructions within the deadline. An unaccepted allotment may lapse under the applicable rules.
Maharashtra State and All India routes
CAP portals publish separate merit lists and cutoffs for different candidate pools. In engineering, the 2026 portal showed Maharashtra State, All India, Jammu and Kashmir and Defence lists. Pharmacy published Maharashtra State, All India and Defence lists. These labels identify distinct admission records; they are not interchangeable ranks. Read the eligibility definition and seat matrix for the route in which you are listed.
Maharashtra candidature and reservation claims depend on the definitions and evidence in the relevant brochure. An applicant should not infer state candidature only from studying in Maharashtra, selecting a Maharashtra exam centre or holding an MHT-CET score. Likewise, All India status does not guarantee access to every seat or programme. The current course rules decide which examinations and documents apply to each pool.
Agriculture and allied courses have another structure. The MHT-CET 2026 agriculture brochure described the Cell’s role in selection for Maharashtra agriculture university programmes and set programme-specific qualifying group rules. It also stated that JEE or NEET could be considered equivalent entrance routes in the cited agriculture context. Do not generalize that clause to technical CAP or to all degree programmes; confirm it in the live agriculture brochure.
Round-by-round actions
After the final merit list, track each round’s schedule and instructions. For every allotment, check the seat type, programme and institute code before accepting. Note any requirement to pay a seat acceptance fee, confirm a choice, report online, visit an institute or upload further documents. If you want to participate in later rounds, verify how acceptance, betterment or freeze decisions affect your status. Do not rely on a rule remembered from another year.
After regular CAP rounds, an authority may publish vacancies or institute-level admission instructions. These are separate stages with their own eligibility, registration and merit procedures. Apply only through the route described in the current notice. A vacancy list is not permission to contact a college with a scorecard and expect admission.
A reliable CAP checklist
Keep one checklist per programme: current brochure, CAP portal, registration number, document status, candidature pool, provisional and final merit position, preference-form receipt, allotment record, acceptance status and reporting deadline. Check the portal frequently during active rounds and save each notice with its publication date. If a record is inconsistent, use the official grievance path before its deadline and preserve acknowledgement.
The 2026-27 engineering portal now reports that its admission process is closed, and the pharmacy portal shows late-cycle vacancy actions. Those statuses are specific to the completed cycle. For 2027, wait for the new CAP notices and use the live portal. MHT-CET score, CAP merit and final admission are connected steps, but each has its own official rules and confirmation.
