Start with the course, group and candidature
For MHT-CET eligibility, three questions belong together: what course are you targeting, which examination group does it accept, and which candidature rules apply to you in that course’s admission process? A valid exam application does not by itself establish eligibility for every degree. MHT-CET 2026 had PCM and PCB groups, and the official brochure allowed candidates to take either group or both. It also states that marks from one group are not transferred to the other. Before registering for a 2027 cycle, check the new exam brochure and the admission brochure for each programme you want.
For engineering and technology, PCM is central to B.E./B.Tech eligibility. The technical brochure also describes other technical programmes and certain cases in which PCB may qualify applicants for listed disciplines. Do not generalize those exceptions to every engineering branch. Pharmacy and Pharm.D have their own academic qualification and group conditions. Agriculture and allied programmes publish another brochure: for the 2026 cycle it mapped PCM/PCB eligibility differently by degree, with both groups permitted for several listed courses, PCM required for B.Tech Agriculture Engineering, and PCB required for Forestry and Fisheries Science. The exact programme list and rules should be checked in the official course brochure.
MHT-CET should not be confused with NEET or MAH MBA/MMS CET. The exam name and group do not tell you that a particular health-science degree accepts MHT-CET; medical courses can require NEET under their own rules. MBA/MMS admissions use a separate CET. Confirm the formal course name and qualifying examination in the responsible authority’s current notice.
School qualification and marks
The MHT-CET exam brochure and a course’s admission brochure answer related but different questions. The exam notice tells you who may sit the examination. The admission rules determine whether the same candidate can compete for a particular seat. For example, the 2026 technical rules describe course-specific HSC subject combinations, qualifying examination marks and other pathways such as relevant diplomas for selected programmes. A student should read the exact clause for the course rather than relying on a general statement that “Class 12 science is enough.”
The eligibility rules can vary across Maharashtra State candidature and All India candidature. Some clauses have different marks thresholds for Maharashtra reserved categories, EWS or persons with disability, while the All India rules may use a different treatment. Do not assume a certificate issued in another state will confer Maharashtra reservation or candidature. Check the 2026-27 technical CAP brochure and the new cycle’s equivalent for the definitions, evidence and deadlines. Where a clause states a percentage in specified subjects, calculate it from those subjects only, using the method stated by the authority.
Candidates with a qualifying diploma or vocational qualification should verify that the programme accepts that route and that the diploma is in the required discipline or allied sector. Do not infer eligibility from the fact that a portal lets you select an exam group. If your result is pending or your subject combination is unusual, contact the official helpdesk before the form closes and keep the written response.
Candidature, category and documents
Admission authorities may distinguish Maharashtra State, All India, Jammu and Kashmir or Ladakh migrant, and other candidature types. The 2026 technical brochure sets out definitions and supporting documents for these routes. Domicile, nationality, schooling, parent status and qualifying-examination location can each matter depending on the specific rule. Use the exact definition in the relevant brochure. A Maharashtra address, schooling in Maharashtra or an exam centre in the state should not automatically be treated as proof of a particular candidature type.
If claiming a reservation or special category, check both the category definition and the evidence required at CAP document verification. The 2026 brochure warns that applicable caste, caste-validity, non-creamy-layer or EWS evidence must be produced at the CAP application stage for category consideration. The new cycle may specify formats, validity periods and submission deadlines. Gather documents early, verify names and dates against your academic records, and confirm how the admission authority treats a pending certificate. Do not assume that selecting a category in the exam form guarantees that category in the merit list.
Persons with disabilities should review the current exam brochure for application declarations, accessible arrangements, scribe eligibility and the evidence required to request support. Examination accommodations and reservation in admission are separate matters; one does not automatically complete the other. If you need a scribe or compensatory time, use the official procedure and deadlines rather than relying on an informal request to a test centre.
Check your own eligibility before applying
Make a one-page eligibility record for each target course. Write the course and degree title, accepted group or entrance tests, required Class 12 subjects, minimum marks and any age or attempt condition stated by the current authority. Add the candidature route you believe applies, the certificates needed to prove it, and the CAP portal where the documents will be checked. Keep a link and publication date for the official brochure behind each entry.
If the 2027 brochure is not yet available, the 2026-27 rules are only a checklist of questions to revisit. Do not submit under a guessed group or candidature category because the registration window is near. First identify the course, read the eligibility clause and ask the official helpdesk if a genuine ambiguity remains. Save the answer and the brochure version you relied on. Eligibility decisions can affect whether a candidate appears in the correct merit pool, so fixing a misunderstanding after the examination may be difficult.
Finally, separate eligibility from admission chances. Meeting the minimum qualification lets you be considered under the applicable rules; it does not predict a cutoff or guarantee allotment. Seat availability, CAP merit, candidature pool, category, preferences and round all affect the result. Use eligibility to establish that you may participate, and use official merit lists and prior cutoffs separately to plan a realistic preference list.
