KEAM cutoffs are last ranks for a specific allotment
CEE’s published “last rank” tables are not the same as the minimum qualifying score in an entrance examination. A last rank records the rank of the candidate allotted in a particular course, college, category, and allotment phase. It is a historical outcome from the seats and options available at that point. It is not a promised closing rank for a later round or the next admission year.
The 2026 CEE portal separates last-rank information by stream and phase. Its Engineering page lists Trial, Phase 1, and Phase 2 tables; other links cover Architecture, B.Pharm, Medical, and AYUSH or allied courses. The course-specific document matters. A candidate searching for an engineering seat should not compare an Engineering rank table with a B.Pharm or NEET-based list, and should not treat a medical course rank as an Engineering cutoff.
Compare like with like before reading a number
Start with the exact degree or branch, institution and campus, allotment phase, category or quota, and the rank type shown in the table. State Merit, community, EWS, special-reservation, and other seat labels may have separate rows or columns. Use the current prospectus and the table’s own heading to interpret those codes. Do not assume a code, reservation benefit, or seat category means the same thing across every stream.
For example, the CEE Phase 2 Engineering last-rank PDF dated 20 July 2026 has separate branch tables. Under Applied Electronics & Instrumentation, it lists Government Engineering College, Kozhikode with a State Merit last rank of 9,347 and an Ezhava-category column value of 14,245. Those numbers belong to that named branch, college, phase, and category columns in that 2026 table. They are not the college’s all-branch cutoff, an entrance-exam score, or a 2027 prediction. Check the category legend in the official document before interpreting a column, and verify the latest phase rather than copying an earlier row.
One seat may appear in more than one allotment phase, while new seats or options can enter later. The published last rank can move as candidates accept, withdraw, or change preferences and as CEE issues updated seat or fee orders. Compare the same branch and category across phases only when the table documents them on the same basis. If a course or category is absent from a row, do not infer that the cutoff was zero, that no seat exists in every quota, or that a candidate is guaranteed admission outside the listed rank.
Use historical ranks to shape a preference list, not to predict
Past last ranks help you see how admission outcomes differed among choices in a particular cycle. They can support a broad preference list, but they do not reveal how many seats will be offered, how many candidates will choose each option, or how the next year’s rank distribution will behave. A single previous closing rank is especially weak as a forecast. If multiple official years are available, compare the same branch, institution, seat category, and allotment phase across those years; note any changes in programme names, intake, seat matrix, or reservation rules before drawing a trend.
Keep the examination score and admission rank distinct. Engineering rank calculation in the 2026 cycle used the normalized entrance score together with qualifying-examination subject marks. Medical and allied streams used different examinations and rank rules. A last-rank table reports allotment rank, not a raw or normalized exam mark. It also does not remove the need to meet academic, nativity, age, reservation-document, and course-specific eligibility requirements.
To make choices, first identify the list in which you are eligible. Then mark a range of options you would genuinely accept and order them by your own course and college preferences, not by a rank prediction alone. Include aspirational choices and alternatives only if you would attend them. Follow CEE’s current option-registration instructions and seat matrix. A rank below a prior last-rank number does not guarantee a seat, and a rank above it does not prove that every later phase is closed.
Where to find current 2027–28 information
As of 27 October 2026, the official CEE pages opened for this article publish KEAM 2026 last-rank tables and allotment notices. They do not establish 2027–28 cutoffs, seat matrices, category definitions, or closing ranks. When the new cycle begins, open the active CEE “Last Rank Details” and allotment pages, then use the latest published phase for the course you want. Read the current prospectus for the category and quota rules that apply to you.
The 2026 Phase 2 example is useful because it shows how specific a last-rank value is. It should not be copied into an application plan as a target rank. The next year’s evidence must be checked after official allotments are released, and any comparison should retain the year, course, college, phase, quota, category, and seat type that make the number meaningful.
