The pattern depends on which KEAM-linked course you choose
“KEAM pattern” can refer to more than one examination. The 2026 CEE prospectus described separate Engineering and Pharmacy computer-based tests. Architecture candidates used NATA, while medical and medical-allied ranking used NEET-UG. The formats below apply only to the 2026 CEE Engineering and Pharmacy papers. No 2027–28 prospectus or paper pattern was found in the official material checked on 27 October 2026, so use these details to understand the prior cycle, not to plan a guaranteed future paper.
Engineering paper: 150 questions in three hours in 2026
The 2026 Engineering Entrance Examination had 75 Mathematics questions, 45 Physics questions, and 30 Chemistry questions, to be answered in 180 minutes. Questions were objective, with five suggested options and one most appropriate response. The examination was a computer-based test conducted in different sessions. CEE described a normalization procedure because sessions had separate question sets. Do not treat a raw score from one session as a direct comparison with a candidate in another session; use the normalized score and official rank information published by CEE.
For each correct response, the 2026 prospectus awarded four marks; an incorrect response lost one mark, while an unanswered question had no deduction. The prospectus also stated that a candidate had to answer at least one question to remain eligible for the Engineering rank list, subject to the specified SC/ST minimum-score exception. These two rules work together: a blank response does not incur a penalty, but leaving the entire paper unanswered disqualified a candidate from that rank list. The exact scoring and qualifying conditions must be checked again in the next prospectus.
The 2026 engineering rank also used qualifying-examination subject marks with the entrance score. The prospectus set a 5:3:2 weight for Mathematics, Physics and Chemistry (or the applicable substituted subject), and described normalization of board marks. This means the entrance test was not the sole input to the engineering ranking in that cycle. A candidate planning for 2027–28 should confirm the new formula before using a coaching score calculator or estimating rank from a mock-test mark.
Pharmacy paper: a different subject mix and duration
The 2026 Kerala Pharmacy Entrance Examination had 45 Chemistry questions and 30 Physics questions in 90 minutes. It used the same broad objective, single-response computer-based format and the prospectus described the same +4 for a correct response, −1 for an incorrect response, and zero deduction for leaving an item blank. A candidate seeking B.Pharm had to attend the Pharmacy Entrance Examination for the relevant rank list. The Pharmacy pattern is not the Engineering pattern with Mathematics removed and the same duration; the subject count and 90-minute total were separately specified.
The prospectus described normalization for multiple examination sessions. It also set a minimum normalized score for the B.Pharm rank list, with a separate SC/ST exception and a requirement to answer at least one question. Those are 2026 eligibility details, not a current guarantee. Verify the 2027–28 threshold, scoring and session design from CEE before using them in preparation or score interpretation.
CBT mechanics and what the instructions mean in practice
The 2026 prospectus said both CEE papers were computer-based tests held in different sessions. Its candidate instructions described a familiarization or mock-test window before the actual examination, a visible timer, navigation between questions, and controls to save, clear, or mark an answer for review. It stated that a selected answer marked for review would still be considered in the final evaluation. CEE may change the interface or instructions, so read the test-day guide issued for the next cycle rather than relying on a remembered screen layout.
Because wrong answers carried a penalty in 2026, an attempt strategy should be based on your certainty and the current marking rule, not a blanket instruction to answer every question. Practice reading carefully, eliminating options only where you can justify the elimination, and managing time across subjects. This is general preparation advice derived from the documented penalty, not an official strategy or a promised score improvement. Do not infer subject weightage solely from question count: the prospectus separately stated an engineering subject ratio for rank computation, which is not the same thing as a forecast of question difficulty.
Use the pattern without mistaking it for a prediction
The official 2026 prospectus and CEE answer-key index are useful records of the previous examination. The answer-key index shows that Engineering and Pharmacy had different dated sessions. It does not establish the next exam’s session count, subject split, timing, question format, normalization method, negative marks, tie rules, or rank formula.
When the 2027–28 prospectus appears, check the paper pattern, number of questions, time allowed, marks per response, penalty, normalization, rank computation, qualifying threshold, and any accessibility arrangements. Keep the course route clear: NATA and NEET-UG are governed by their own authorities and schedules even though CEE uses their scores in relevant admission lists. Use a current official candidate notice for test-day instructions. Until it is published, the reliable statement is that these are the documented 2026 rules and the future pattern remains unannounced.
