KEAM is an admissions route, not one test for every course

KEAM is the Commissioner for Entrance Examinations (CEE), Kerala’s umbrella application and admission process for a wide set of professional degrees. Its 2026 prospectus covers engineering, architecture, pharmacy, medicine and medical-allied options including agriculture, forestry, veterinary science and fisheries. Candidates could select more than one course in a single application. That broad scope can be misleading: the entrance test used to rank you depends on the course. For engineering, CEE ran the KEAM engineering examination; B.Pharm used the Kerala Pharmacy Entrance Examination; architecture used NATA; and medical and medical-allied rank lists relied on NEET-UG. Applying to the KEAM portal did not make the engineering paper a substitute for those other examinations.

CEE runs the state’s centralised allotment process (CAP) for eligible courses. Think of the journey as a sequence: identify the degree and its qualifying examination, submit the CEE application and course choices, satisfy academic and nativity conditions, meet the relevant rank-list rules, then register options and follow allotment notices. A score, rank, or application acknowledgement by itself is not an admission offer.

What the 2027–28 applicant can confirm today

As checked on 27 October 2026, the official CEE prospectus opened for this guide still identifies itself as KEAM 2026. The current notice feed is actively listing 2026 allotment activity, including notices dated 24 October 2026. No 2027–28 prospectus, application window, examination timetable, fee table, paper changes, rank formula, or CAP schedule was established in those sources. Treat all 2026 dates and numeric rules below as historical examples, not promises about the next intake.

Use the CEE website as the source of truth when the new cycle opens. Start with its prospectus and notifications, then follow the course-specific CEE candidate portal for application, defect notices, hall ticket, result, and allotment actions. A notice can amend an earlier prospectus schedule; the later official notice controls for the matter it changes. Save the prospectus version and date you relied on, because the title “KEAM” spans several streams whose calendars and score rules differ.

Match your course to its actual ranking route

The 2026 prospectus provides a useful map, but it is not a forecast of 2027 rules. For engineering and listed technology degrees, applicants had to take the CEE engineering entrance test. The paper covered Mathematics, Physics, and Chemistry. In that cycle it contained 75 Mathematics, 45 Physics, and 30 Chemistry questions over 180 minutes. CEE described computer-based testing over multiple sessions and a normalization process. The 2026 answer-key index also lists the actual April examination dates and subject sessions. Those details help you understand the earlier format; check the 2027–28 prospectus before deciding how many questions, sessions, or marks to expect.

For B.Pharm, the relevant 2026 examination was the Kerala Pharmacy Entrance Examination, with Chemistry and Physics questions. Architecture applicants needed a valid NATA score under the Council of Architecture’s schedule; an engineering rank did not stand in for NATA. MBBS, BDS, AYUSH, and medical-allied lists used NEET-UG according to the 2026 prospectus, with course-specific qualifying conditions. The distinction matters for preparation and application choices: a candidate seeking both engineering and another stream may need to meet more than one examination requirement even though CEE accepts a single KEAM application.

The 2026 prospectus lists 17 as the minimum age by 31 December 2026, and no upper age limit for several named courses, while other medical courses followed their own council or NEET conditions. Academic marks, subject combinations, nativity, and category requirements also varied by course. Do not transfer a rule from engineering to medicine, or from one nativity category to another. Read the eligibility chapter for the exact degree and seat type you intend to pursue.

Application and allotment are separate jobs

In 2026, CEE required online submission through its website, with course selection in the application. Candidates were told to retain the acknowledgement, check their candidate portal for defects, and keep credentials safe. CEE’s prospectus also made online option confirmation mandatory before each allotment phase unless a notice said otherwise. A correct exam application therefore does not finish the admission process. After results, check whether you appear in the relevant rank list, whether your eligibility documents are complete, when option registration opens, and what the allotment notice requires you to do.

Before submitting a future application, prepare identity, academic, nativity, reservation, and income documents that apply to you. Match names and dates of birth to the supporting certificates. Keep the final acknowledgement and payment confirmation. Review the portal after submission rather than waiting for a mailed memo: the 2026 prospectus said defect information would be shown through the candidate portal and that updates should be followed on the CEE website.

For college choices, use the current course-wise seat matrix and CEE participating-institution list, not an old directory. Check the exact degree, campus, quota, fee order, and reporting instructions. A broad KEAM course list does not prove that every listed course uses the same examination, participates in the same allotment phase, or has the same eligibility rules. If a question concerns a certificate or category, ask CEE through the contact route in the current prospectus before the correction window closes.

Practical 2027–28 checklist

1. Decide which degrees you want and identify the test or score used for each. Keep engineering, B.Pharm, architecture, NEET-linked, and medical-allied routes separate in your plan.
2. When CEE publishes the 2027–28 prospectus, verify the application dates, fee, subject requirements, age and academic conditions, test pattern, rank method, and category documents against that edition.
3. Submit one accurate CEE application as instructed for that cycle, choose the courses you intend to pursue, and save the acknowledgement, payment proof, and application number.
4. Check the candidate portal for defects and later notifications. Download the correct hall ticket or upload the external examination score where the applicable course requires it.
5. After results, verify the relevant course rank list and follow CEE’s separate option-registration and allotment schedule. Read each notice for what action is required in that round.
6. Before accepting a seat, verify the exact institute, course, quota, fees, and reporting deadline in the current official notices. Keep the allotment and admission receipts.

The safest use of the 2026 material is to understand the structure and begin broad preparation. It cannot supply 2027–28 dates or certify that a past rule will remain unchanged. Recheck the new CEE prospectus and notices before spending money, travelling to an exam centre, or treating a course choice as complete.
